hi there i have a 1985 s-10 truck long bed ,erery thing worked fine for a year and one day turned the key on and it went past full and pegged .some times if it set long enough it would drop a little bit but now it just stay's the same .

does anybody have a idea what it could be or what to look for ,its a pain checking the trip meter all the time for the gas level ,any help would be appreceited .

It's really not too bad to do... You could also try to inspect the harness from the tank. The fuel level sender works by reading the resistance of the ground (Ohms). If the wire going from the sender to the gauge is grounding out on the frame, or other metal, it will likely read full. Just moving these wires around might fix the problem.

On most trucks, it is easier to lift the bed to get to the fuel pump. Give it a shot. It's not that bad. I've done this to several truck, and it was a piece of cake.

TexasAl is right. Have a couple of friends help you lift the bed off. Make sure you locate and disconnect the wire harness for the taillights before you lift the bed off.

Some gauges read empty when the ground is bad, some read full when it is bad. I would check connections first. Won't be bad to do this time of year (assuming you are north of the equator).

i will kheck it ,i know pulling the tank is out of the question .there is a external engine mounted fuel pump .
