Michigan State Police Tests

Not sure if anyone posted this but nice Job GM at this year's police testing.

 

New Caprice and Tahoe performance are amazing. They finally pulled the 3.9l pushrod out of the Impala for 2012 and dropped in the 3.6l(302hp) talked to a few local officers and they didn't really like the power of the 3.9 so well deserved. Even in the public impala they're dropping the 3.5l and only offering the 3.6l. I miss my old impala and seeing the new changes just reinforces how good of a sedan it can be.

 

PS. Just curious, anyone know why they wouldn't drop the 6.0l from the Caprice or even 6.2l into the Tahoe PPV?

We went through this with GM before in my Department. GM says they don't do it because of mpg and abuse of power train. They said the vehicles will not last under high stress and abuse without being detuned. They also said they want the "customer" to be able to use their vehicles and not go over budget because of fuel consumption. I can tell you that the new Tahoes we have with the 5.3L blow the doors off my 2010 Silverado for some reason. I can also break the tires loose in the Tahoe when I can't with my Silverado. Driving it 8 or more hours a day, it seems to me like a lot of the "granny" stuff we get in our vehicles off the lot is not included in the PPV.

 

Not an exact quote from the GM rep we spoke with, but those are a few of the "issues" we were told the PPV may have.

Biggest reason is GM like all other auto makers have to meet CAFE standards, even for fleet vehicles.

HA! The fords go back to last place again, not to mention the fact that Ford has to use a turbo in their V-6 to make it fast and GM does it naturally.

No problem...................The 6.0 and 6.2 are both very reliable and capable powerplants. Would love to have access to a 6.2L PPV to drive all day.......Maybe if GM beefs everything else up that will be possible.

I don't see anywhere in the article that says the chevy's are faster then the fords ? Unless you mean top speed ? That could be just the gearing or redline of the motor. The article doe's say tho, " It topped all "naturally aspirated" V-6 entrants in acceleration and top speed.

Top Speed. Right at the top:

Tahoe PPV has segment-leading top speed and reduces stopping distance seven feet

 

 

Lets keep in mind that Tahoe PPV is the 2WD version.

I wonder how long ago this testing wrapped up?

 

I ask because I'm in Michigan this week on business and my hotel is literally across the street from Ford's prototype lab or whatever it is called and this morning I was behind a police-spec Taurus that had tons of mounts/plugs for test equipment still on it. It was pouring so the pic came out terrible.
