22" Oem Wheels In The Winter

This will be my first winter with my Sierra Denali AWD. I've had a few other GMT-900's which always have stayed sheltered during the winter, but this year my truck will be out in the snow and salt. (I don't have my Suburban which was my winter daily the last 2 years)

Anyway with that being said I am running OEM GM CK375 22" Wheels with Bridgestone Dueler Alenza tires.

My concern is perhaps damaging the wheels due to the salt/sand/liquid chloride they put on the roads here in Central IL. Have any of you guys ran these OEM Chrome Wheels during the winter's or do you all have an extra set you put on for winter wheels? If you have ran them how have they held up? What are you doing to them to keep them protected?

Also with 22" wheels, is there a big danger with potholes? I've never had to worry about 20" Wheels as there is enough rubber, but this is the first winter with 22" Wheels and I'm not sure...maybe I should just buy a set of OEM Takeoff 17" Wheels and tires and run those?

This. With all that salt and crap you yankees have on the road you're nice rims are going to end up getting pitted and look crappy. Buy you a set of 17" steelies and put some winter tires on them (sure they don't look good, but its winter nothing looks good covered in salt and snow)

This. With all that salt and crap you yankees have on the road you're nice rims are going to end up getting pitted and look crappy. Buy you a set of 17" steelies and put some winter tires on them (sure they don't look good, but its winter nothing looks good covered in salt and snow)

So you are saying my truck doesn't look good covered in salt and snow stuck in the middle of my road? I mean this was after digging for two hours.

Anyhow, to the OP: Winter wheels and tires are a must. I work for a municipality and I can tell you first hand the CRAP they throw down on the roads is not something you want on your perfect, mirror finish, GM chrome. If you don't want to do that then my buddy used ZoopSeal one winter and it sealed them off pretty well.

We haven't seen that much snow in the past 100 years combined. We got 8" last year at once and Dear Lord the world was ending! Everyone! Go to Wal-Mart! We're gonna be snowed in for weeks!

i vote for a set of steel wheels (like the spare wheel/tire) and a set of winter tires.

also, don't forget to protect your paint! put a couple coats of wax on their before the snow starts to fall!

HAHAHA! We actually got called off of work for the first time in ages do to weather. We opened back up the next day in town and I had one hell of a time driving into work that day. The only had one lane opened up on backroads and it was 3+ feet deep if you left that lane. They are calling for much of the same or worse this year.

Ahh no problem...I'm enjoying the conversation...it reminds me of all the idiots out there in the winter....

I suppose I'll being a search for a set of winter wheels...probably be a cheap investment considering what these wheels cost new!

I'd probably get a different set for the winter, but my wife's oem chrome 20" have held up fine. They have been on her daily driver (05 Denali Yukon XL) for about 5 years now.

The chrome does not hold up at all and will be destroyed if you run them in the winter. After just a month the first year I had my truck they were getting bad. I was able to polish everything back but my Mom has a buick with the GM OEM wheels and there is no hope for them after a few winters. Get some cheap 17's and good snow tires, you'll be better any way you slice it.

I'd jump on craigslist Travis. I've seen quite a few tires and wheels for sale on my local craigslist and I'd imagine its pretty much the same everywhere else. Just search for GM Wheels or Chevy Wheels... Its amazing how cheap some people are letting their stuff go for there!
