Side Molding Got Me Worried

I have of course what I think is a nice white truck. It was not my first choice of color but I have learned to like it. I like the chrome and the white side molding.

I have seen a couple of white Silverados going down the road that have the white door molding and they look like they are turning an orangish color. I would imagine these are the 08's which have been out the longest.

I don't want to remove them so I am hoping if I keep the truck clean and waxed they will stay white longer.

Anyone have a problem with their door molding fading or changing colors?

Painted body side moldings typically fade before the rest of the vehicle. The only solution if they start turning yellow or orange is to repaint them or replace tem. Repainting is generally much cheaper and you can do it yourself with a spray can. The area covered is small and you can get pretty good results. Just wet sand the molding with 400 grit sandpaper and mask everything off properly to avoid overspray on the rest of the truck. When the paint dries, use some polishing compounds to polish it. If you use a typical spray paint can from Advance Auto you do not have to clear coat the moldings, as the paint is double base. Body shops will usually use a sealant on the plastic moldings, then spray with base coat, followed by clearcoat. Thsi is the best way to refinish them, but a bit more expensive.

My 07 CC Classic has been having the same issue! I use a white magic eraser, while the truck is wet, comes right off!

i have a black 05 sierra crew cab that has the chrome door moldings and they need to be replaced. was wondering if anybody knew where i could find replacements. thanks

i would check around at your local body shops, ebay, and do a search on the web. or leave them off.

this was about a year ago, but you can see the yellowish color. it is a 2007.

My 07 turned yellow ish on the top side. I just took them off. My truck was clay barred and wax twice a year. They did, however, change the body molding but im pretty sure its the same paint.

buddy of mine has a 2011 extended cab and has had problems with body molding falling off. My crew cab has had no problems.

I have an 07 GMT900 and mine faded like crazy and looked like chit. I have a silver birch metallic? I think. I opted to remove them than have them repainted, I like the look better.

 

Also, the replacements do not come painted, you will have to have those painted too.
