Throttle Body Replacement

My 2008 Sierra 1500 at 75,000 miles had the throttle body replaced under warranty. I have a K&N cold air intake of which I take great care to properly oil. I never saw the old throttle body but the mechanic at GMC stated in his report that it was from carbon build up... How could there be any carbon buildup there or could it possibly have been trace amounts of oil from the intake gradually building there over 75,000 miles. The MAF sensor is clean. Either way I ordered an oil free replacement filter from Amsoil and it seems to be a better product anyway. Does anyone have any input on this or has anyone else had a similar issue?

i'm not sure how it gets there, but over time ever engine develops it, regardless of the filter. i just know to check it when i check the filter and clean it if its dirty

Thanks, Ill keep an eye on it and keep it clean. They replaced mine because the check engine light still came on after they had cleaned it. Probably because there was a lot of build up so Ill make sure it doesnt happen again because the part is probably expensive.

lots of people like to blame it on oiled filters, but mine was filthy when i added my oiled filter. it had a paper filter changed regularly all of its life beforehand, and after about 20,000 on the spectre filter i have seen no more buildup. it will be there, of course, but i don't see where the filter is doing any worse than a dry paper filter.

I still have the whole K&N intake set up so I will have the same air flow I only changed it to include a dry Amsoil filter. Amsoil actually makes a filter to all the same specs to specifically replace the oiled K&N I think its made with a nano fiber technology. It sounds a little better and I wont need to worry about having to oil it anymore. But I am curious, what is a spectre filter? Is that just a different brand filter?

I think the carbon is coming from your PCV system. The only thing that improperly oiled K and N air filter will do is coat the MAF, which you can clean.
