Rust Warranty Apply To Wheels?

i have the factory chrome "clad" wheels on my truck. over the past year they have become pitted from the hard water coming out of my apt's sprinkler system. there are even a few rust spots on them. i've tried to clay bar and polish them off but it seems to be underneath the clear coat.

 

will GM honor the 6 year rust warranty on the wheels? or does it only apply to body parts?

GM fixed the wheels on my GrandAm a few years ago. They were the chrome clad wheels, and the wheel under the chrome covers were aluminum wheels. The alum was corroding from underneath the chrome covers, and looking like crap. GM paid for all the wheels to be polished, and then coated with some stuff that stopped the corrosion. That was when the car was in its 3rd winter.

I believe the corrosion warranty is for rust-through, but someone should check me on that.

I think, think, wheels are covered under the 3yr/36k? I know where I work we have done a good handfull of chrome clad 20" wheels on I think 2009, and 2010 trucks under warranty.

 

I would check with your dealer to be sure. Owners manual might have description on warranty as well.
