Bought my new street bike! Now I need a jacket.

Looks like I'll have to find another forum to join...LOL Today I just bought a 2005 Yamaha YZF-600R from a coworker of mine. 600cc, blue/white, well cared-for. Should help to keep the mileage low on my silverado.

Question for other riders on here: What's a good riding jacket to buy? Either leather or textile is OK, but I don't really need a cold weather layer. Just something with good armor and decent ventilation. Any suggestions?

Awesome man! I have a 2007 Honda 600rr and I love it. Got a nice deal on it and a Joe Rocket honda jacket, and I really like the jacket a lot. It is leather, and is a little warm in the summer but it has removable sides and that helps a lot. I would imagine any leather jacket will be warmer than a textile one.

Have fun and keep it right side up :pimp:

Congrats man! Sport bikes can be a lot of fun. Don't try to save money when it comes to gear. It doesn't have to be expensive, but make sure it's safe and comfortable. I had a textile jacket before I sold my gixxer and I loved it. Sorry, I can't remember what brand it was. I had a Shark S650 helmet and hated it. It got a lot of loud wind noise and it seemed to be poorly constructed. The visor actually flew off while I was riding one day, long story but it wasn't a good day. Anyway, good luck!

I had an alpine stars mesh textile jacket for the summer. It had alot of air movement but still had hard pads.

For the colder days I had a icon leather that was great

I ride a dual sport, but have a Joe Rocket textile that I've been happy with, as well as a set of Motoport Kevlar Mesh jacket/pants. They're great in the summer b/c I wear shorts and still have good protection, but they're pretty chilly when the temps start dropping.

If you are close to me in size I have 2 jackets I am trying to sell right now. I sold my 2008 Zx10r and now need to get rid of the gear. One is a Shift jacket, great for spring, fall, and winter as it has a liner and the armour. I also have a Icon holligan jacket that would work year round. Has a liner as well and is really ventilated.

Let me know if you are interested, my pain is your gain. I paid well abover $200 each for these not even 4 months ago and need to sell them now. I also have some gloves for sale as well.

Check out iron pony in cloumbus ohio. They have a website, but well worth a drive. The place is huge and full of closeouts
