06 Silverado Center Console Install

Recommended Posts

Hey all, i am about to start a new project on my truck. I drive a 2006 Silverado crew cab. Currently my front seats are 2 buckets and a separate folding jump seat. I have purchased a floor mounted center console and dash kit to replace my jump seat.

Here are some of my thoughts so far:

Removing the seats seams pretty strait forward to me. However i do have some concerns about taking apart the dash. I dont want to snap any clips. The last thing i had questions about was the Bose sub in the console i purchased. Am i able to wire that sub up to my current stereo. I DO NOT currently have the bose premium sound system.

Thanks for your input guys! I have found that every dealer i talk to tells me something different so i really appreciate your help!

Everything will swap over as if it was stock, EXCEPT the amp will not wire into a non-Bose system. Honestly, I can tell you that the Bose crap is not all its cracked up to be. I used to have atruck that had the bose system in it, and I wasnt impressed. You would be better off taking the Bose amp out and replacing it with a good aftermarket amp. There are some really decent ones out there that have enough power to push the door speakers, and are small enough to fit under the console.

Someday, Im gonna attempt this same project. But, Im not gonna mess with the factory Bose amp.

Who sells the center console and dash kit and what is the price?

Various recycled parts shops. Check places like LKQ. I have seen console go from anywhere from 200-600 dollars. Some include the dash kit, some do not.

I got mine at Pickup Salvage. I told them Schram had it together for 150 and they gave it to me at that proice. check out Schram auto they are a salvage yard and deal online. its an easy but time consuming swap

I did the swap in my 2003 Silverado.

1. Removing the seats is straight forward, just get the proper socket/ bits to remove the seat bolts and they come right out.

2. I chose to not get the dash piece and wing it. I had a friend with factory center console so I took some measurements and marked off the original dash piece, I then took a jig saw to my lower dash and removed the center most section. Leave a little extra so you can go back and smooth it out with a dremel or something and have enough material to work with. The worst thing you can do is ruin it and have to get the dash piece so you stand a chance of saving that amount.

3. I did not utilize the Bose speaker/ amp. Entirely not worth it and incompatible with my factory setup. JL Audio does make a stealth box that will replace it, take that and any good aftermarket amp and wire it to your existing system and you would have a nice setup similar in appearance to factory but much better.

Nick, How do you wire the cigarette lighters into the existing dash. I too am leaving the bose amp and sub out of the mess, bust i do want to make sure my 3 cigarette lighters work. There is a wad of wires though and this i am completely unfamiliar with.

The main thing to look out for is that the dash changed in '02 or '03, to accommodate the double-din radios. I installed an older console in my '05, and the bezel comes down far enough to block the ash tray in the earlier dash panel. Not a big deal as I don't smoke, but worth mentioning.

I forget how I handled the wiring for the three lighter plugs. I was thinking it just plugged in, but I could be wrong.

In any event, all you have to do is match wire colors. If you have to cut anything, use solder and heat shrink tubing.

I didn't have the bose speaker, but I had a bunch of air conditioning ductwork. I just ignored it. My original jump seat didn't have air ducts, so I didn't give up anything by installing the console.
