Im sure a few of you use them, what Im wondering is with the extra 6" to 7" its sticks out past where a normal hitch ball would be does that reduce the tounge weight the hitch can carry. Im thinking with the extra length would it act more like a lever and put more torque on the reciever. Or am I putting to much thought in it? Here is a link to the hitch Im talking about. I took it to the shop and bored another hole 2" to the front so it would slide farther into the reciever so now its only about 5" farther out than a normal ball mount.

How much tongue weight does your trailer have?

What class hitch do you have?

Are you using this on that Corvette?

It will increase the stress on your hitch and it will also reduce weight on your front wheels. Neither of which is positive.

Sorry guys forgot to say 01' GMC 2500 xtra cab short bed 4x4. I dont think it will make much difference the heaviest trailer I pull is an 18' ft enclosed trailer with around 4k total weight trailer and equipment. I was just concerned that it may cause issues for the hitch itself so far as tounge weight is concerned possibly causing damage to the hitch itself.

The reason I asked about the weight and the hitch type is because a 4K# trailer will have ~500#+ of tongue weight.

GM hitches are not noted for being the best hitches on the market. You may well have a Class 3 hitch on your truck. If you do, it is maxed out and an extension like that would increase the stress beyond the max rating of the hitch..

If you have a Class 4 hitch, you should be good because it has a rating of 1000# tongue weight.
