we got this ice storm.  i hate ice storms.  first we got snow, and that kicked ass.  the snow was great, but then it all turned to ice and the power went out.  duke power was completely unprepared and f***ed up big time and we were without power for a week.  we ended up waiting in line for a generator.  we were able to use some appliances, but we were still pretty miserable and cold.  it looked like 1973 or something at the gas station too.  long lines and lots of stupid people were out.  tons of trees fell and it looks like frozen #### around here.

i got some pics of the truck incased in ice from the morning after the storm that i will upload soon.

Actually I thought it was kind of cool looking.  I just didn't want to stand out there in the cold at MIDNIGHT taking pics, I needed to go.

I park sideways on a hill and the rain had caused it to melt some and then refreeze.  It arched from the roof of my Blazer out and then back in at about midway down the drivers side.  There was a space of 4 or 5 inches between the ice on the drivers side to the upper half of the Blazer itself.  I t pretty cool looking.

We had the same thing here in 2000. Outages from a week to several.  I remember blades of grass with ice coatings of about 3/4 of an inch!

I see where good old Duke power wants to pass the 24 million cost back to the consumers for the lack of transmission line support. We don't have strongly built power transmission lines, poles, etc., here either. You would see 50-75 poles down in a row in places.

Jail may be a place to go. They have nice diesel or natural gas generators.

Wimps!

I agree

I must say it has been nice the past few days (high 40s)

Yeah, it was so bad down there, Dominion VA Power had to send some reinforcements.

We got 3-6" here in VA, and of all people, the mailman had the most trouble. He got stuck so bad infront of my neighbors house, by the time he was done Spinning wheels, he was facing 180 degrees opposite of where he was facing when he pulled up to our mailbox.

A part of me thinks he did it on purpose though.. :wtf:

Aw c'mon Paco.  Put it in 4wd and go!  I like it in the 30s and 40s-alot better to work outside in that than in the 90s with high humidity.  We had about 10" of snow here last week and one thing I don't like about that is all the mud now that it's in the 40s and melting.

Oh well...look at it this way; Only another 4 months of winter weather to go!!! :wtf:

We were without power for 3 days.  We were fortunate.  Durham, Chapel Hill, RTP, and Orange County were not as fortunate.  I ran the chainsaw all day last Thursday to help CP&L and emergency crews get down our street because of the number of trees downed.  I've gotta replenish the supply of firewood and propane for the Coleman stove in case of another one.

Heck I'm not whining about it.  I lke the weather, I was just going to take the pictures of the Blazer because I have never seen the ice curve out like that on a vehicle before and it ws cool looking.  But I decided it wasn't cool enough to take the time to do it at midnight when it was freezing.

We had about 8 inches here.  We've still got most of it, but it is starting to get nasty from the little bit of melting during the day.   :wtf:
