Spanish road signs

Just was wondering how long everyone thinks it will be before this Great Nation of ours starts posting road signs in both English and Spanish?  I know that the state here offers drivers exams in Spanish, and in my small town I'm the foreigner. :wtf:

Where do you live? Im 45 miles north of El Paso, and havent ever really noticed any spanish Road-signs other than near the border crossings... But, a ton of the stores, even auto-parts stores are Spanish only...

No offense...  But please no....  I don't want road signs in foriegn languages.

If you can't read enough English to get a US or International drivers license, then I don't think you should be allowed to drive a vehicle on our roads.

Hmmm...  I hope I didn't open a can of worms here, so let's not start any bashing.  All I'm saying is the fact that the drivers exam is very easy and anyone who could operate a vehicle could pass it with a little studying.

I know we are a land of intergrated people and cultures and that is based on our fundamentals as a country.  We just need to keep in mind where our heritage is from and what formed this great country in 1776.

Well I know that in south Florida there are area that have signs in Spanish.  Here in NC there is a large population of Latin Americans cause of the migrant workers for the produce feilds. I'm in a small town of about 500 and they basically opened up a Western Union office so that they could wire money back home too their families.  I'm not trying to cause waves here, Just wondered if anyone thought that it might come to that of the signs.  I have been all over the world being in the Air Force and seen other countries with English as well as their own on their signs.

When I went to Korea I tried to learn what I could in Korean. you could see the difference it the way they treated ya if you showed that you made the effort to learn their language.

America is a giant melting pot. With the recent ice storm we had there were a few Migrant workers that died due to no electricity and used charcoal as heat. They didn't want to be found out in fear of deportation.

Anyway I was just wondering about the signs. If we did then you would think everyone would want it in their language as well.  German, Chinese, Japanese, Russian and all the rest that came here for a better life.

Don't take this the wrong way but the only ones that deserve anything are the Native Americans. They really got the raw deal.

If anyone were to ask me what my nationality was I would have to say "American".  Yea, I have some German, Irish and who knows what else in my blood, and that is what makes me an American.

I am very proud to be an American, and I feel that if a foriegner wants to live in this country, that is OK with me.  But they should make every effort to become an American and to follow our traditions.

I have no problem with the schools teaching our children a second language.  Most European countries require English for their students.  I don't care if the second language is Spanish either, but the primary language is "English", and that is the language that this country was founded on.  Therefore IMO I feel strongly, that all the road signs and anything else that is funded by our Federal government, should be printed in English...

I agree with Shaners.  :wtf:

hehe, don't say that in MN. It is an ongoing war for the the Lake up here. It is horrible. I don't really care much because I don't fish it, but it's getting old along with the hunting rights.

The part that gets me is the tax thing. Why can they get away with little or no tax. I figure if I start a business here, I should get the same benefit.

I have to say the Natives were very smart on building the Casinos. Very good idea and they make plenty on them. They also treat the customers very well.

The Native oughta get some kind of break.  They were robbed of everything and humiliated when the Europeans came here.  If it wasn't for the Europeans they would have the whole country and wouldn't have to worry about getting breaks.

And guess what.....all those Native American tribes can use English, so everyone else needs to use it too!!

It has been long enough. If we Europeans wouldn't have come here, someone else would have and probably wouldn't be as nice. I figure they were paid plenty good enough for their land. They were lucky the settlers didn't just take it. Back then old the strong survived, the weak died out. That the way it was and nobody can change it. Giving what we do to the new generation, won't bring anything back, and it will never be enough. This is a country of freedom, not benefits. Everyone should have the same opportunities and rules.

If you sell your house right now for $150K. Then it is worth $500K in 10 years, do you expect a kickback from that? Probably isn't gonna happen. We get suckered everyday by someone and nothing can be done about it.

Another example::

A man finds gold 150 years ago and digs it all up for nearly nothing compared to todays prices. Nowdays what is it worth? Should that guy's family get any benefits out of this? No, it is already sold and it's over. Deal closed. It's just the way it is.

Another thing about the natives having the whole country to themslves. I don't believe they ever had any type of schooling until europeans came here. They would have all these resources and then what would happen. Some country would come over and just take what they want. There would be nothing left.

First off, equality means equality.... No special treatment because my great great great grandfather stole your great great great grandfathers land, or my great great great great grandfather was your great great great great grandfathers' slave master.  I'ts past us, so can't we all live as Americans instead of Vicitmized-Americans or any other type of Hyphenated-American???

Secondly...  We speak ENGLISH in America.    I have no problem with you here in my country if you're not an American Citizen, so long as you pass these 4 criteria:

1) You came through the front door... meaning you have papers and didn't take a little midnight-swim.  If you did, GET OUT and come back the right way.

2) YOU LEARN ENGLISH.   Like I say, I don't have a problem with you being here, but I am not learning your language because you're here.   When in Rome, do as the Romans do,  When in American, speak like an American.

3) Which goes hand-in-hand with the first 2:  Respect the country.  Salute our flag, Say our pledge of Alegiance, Sing our national anthem proudly with your hat off your head and your right hand over your heart, and Thank our Veterans.   If you're too 'proud-of-your-heratige' to do those things, then go home.

And 4)  You don't expect special treatment because you're not white.

Just my 2 cents :wtf:

What bothers me most is that most people in general don't have much if any respect for our country.  Which is quite sad.

When I moved to Tampa, Florida from Nashville, Tennessee last year one thing really pissed me off....

The ATM's ask if you want instuctions in English or Spanish.  Very small thing I admit but just a sign of how much big corporations will bow to any groups needs just to make an extra buck.  Maybe the language thing is that way everywhere else but it wasn't that way in Tennessee!!

Another thing, I won't set foot in a Kmart because no one there speaks English.
