Which level of tint should i go with?

Damn... 0% would be like painting the window black, right? :) I just know that the % means % percent of light let through (ie 5% lets 5% of light through).

i have 5% on all four side windows and a 5% strip on the front windshield. one thing i have noticed is that if you leave the back glass alone where cops can see in/through your truck you will attrack a lot less attention. i did this on my last truck as well and have not had police bother me once about it (knock on wood). on my old ford i have 10% all the way around and it seemed to attract more attention.

Not sure how strict Cali is but on my truck I have 1% rears and 20% fronts, the fronts are on the verge of being too light but the rears are just right.

You learn to back up with strictly your side view mirrors instead of your rearview

You better watch out with that. Troopers are really cracking down on tint lately. Legal limit is 25% or lighter. Also, the inspection stations are liable for inspecting vehicles that have windows that are too dark, therefore, most of them wont pass a vehicle with darker than legal windows. I had 18% on mine, which read 14 with their little gizmo, and 4 differnt shops told me it wouldnt pass. Luckily they didnt charge me for the inspection. If you know a guy though, then the troopers are your only worry.

That sucks about inspection stations. We only have to get a safety inspection done of we buy a new car. As long as we own it, no inspections. Plus there's no Tint law.

In MD, only the front sides are restricted to 35%. The rear being tinted is the most important to keep the sun off my kids. If i had to, I'd go legal on the front sides and go 5% on the rear and the rear sides.

Everything in CA is illegal. What suck more are the yearly inspections you guys are talking about. We only have to pay tags annually and get smogged every 5 years.

Arkansas has no vehicle inspection. Its like the wild west with vehicle mods down here.

Ummh, yes there is a law about light reflection in Ontario. You just don't get bothered here in Ottawa much because the city cops have tint on their ghost cars. Look for brown or silver Crown Vics sitting at intersections. Also the OPP in Kanata have tint on their ghost Tahoes. Now ,I have seen a car in the west-end with mirror tint and I can't figure out how they get away with it.

Anywhere you read about tinting the front windows is vague and there's no straight answer. I agree about the mirror finish, but we all know it's some kid with a civic and a pop can exhaust. And cops suck at the ghost cars here. They are obvious what the are if you have your eyes open

Back when I was in high school, I use to have dark limo tint on everything I had, and the local cops were a real pain. However, I'll note that I live in the Communistwealth of Virginia and also in a small town where the cops really don't have much of anything to do.

One of the last window tint tickets I had was for 1% light transmission with their little device. I don't know if you can still purchase 2% window tint, but we use to get it and double layer it, haha. That and my exhaust obtained me an insane amount of tickets.

Virginia is a bunch of Nazis about stuff like window tint, exhaust, etc., but more than anything, I think it's just the cop. There was some cool cops around town that wouldn't mess with you, but then there was also two or three that would nail you everytime over and over for it.

I hadn't put tint on anything in probably 8-9 years until I done a factory match on the fronts of my Grand Cherokee I bought a couple years back. I'm thinking they said it was 25%. It's not too dark, but dark enough. I'll probably end up having my truck done here before long too and just doing a factory match to the rear windows.

Like I said before though, I think in most cases it depends on if the cop wants to be an a-hole or not.

    • I have A 2020 1500 5.3 8 speed. LTZ. Transmission problems since 60,000 miles. Started when I go to store in morning to get my morning coffee before work leave truck running get back in put it in drive/ rev no movement step on gas a little slams into gear. Put in neutral step on gas little shake then put in gear and gose.  Shut truck off start .. ok now at stop light stop truck after a few seconds feel a little kick if that doesn’t happen stuck in 3/4 gear shut truck off wait few seconds and start usually ok again. If you down shift manually ok as long as you get into 1st before stop. If not it kicks . I WANT A NEW TRANSMISSION. Now I want a new truck it just hit 80,000 IDK IF ILL BUY CHEVY CAUSE THEY STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM AND REFUSE TO RECALL . Oh I’ve changed the fluid and filter 3 times now. And yes used mobile 1 not ac/delco cause it’s not meeting the requirements that mobile is did use ac/delco filter

    • While waiting for parts I have been working on installing the AC compressor, new accumulator, and orifice tube. Also changed out the high side ball valve (original). The orifice tube that was in there wasn't too bad. Slightly dirty, a little bit of junk, but not blocked. Glad I changed it out.   The accumulator, which should have been a 5 minute job, may have just burned $50. Put some PAG in it, wrote the date and mileage on the side, fresh o-rings and gooey'd up the threads and rings with Nylog. Got everything connected and snugged and was going to vacuum down the system, and....   My manifold gauge won't fit on the port. It's not an R12 service port. It LOOKS like an R134 service port but the diameter is a hair too large. There's a sticker on the accumulator that says it's designed to be used with R12 and R134a systems only. So it's not R1234yf. Even if I reduced the diameter slightly with a file, the shoulder on the port is too large so the quick-connect valve won't lock on. I'm stumped. It's going back, and 50/50 on if they'll give me a refund.   Also, I did a fuel pressure test.... Key on, the gauge spikes to about 60psi and quickly bleeds off, like 2psi per second. The fuel isn't going into the plenum, no smell, starts fine, so I'm guessing there's a bad check valve in the pump and the fuel is just draining back into the tank. oh, hell. But, it shouldn't be a problem, pump primes just fine and the truck starts right up. It just means I can't really ever use fuel pressure to verify a leak at the injector or intake.
    • Got this yesterday out of nowhere. Truck is a 25',6.6 gasser with 8k miles.  Only semi anomaly is that the truck had been sitting, uncranked for 6 days. Elec Stability Control showed immediately upon cranking, not while driving. No drivability issues, just the message. Battery didn't seem to be weak when cranking over.  I drove it, killed it, let it sit a few hrs with no avail.  Truck is 100% stock. No damage.
