iPod/iPhone Netflix/YouTube on OGM-1 - Anyone tried this part?

It looks like this part may provide a straight plugin from the iPod/iPhone dock to the AUX input on the Advent MediaLink pod and save a whole bunch of adaptors (like this).

The only thing that may be weird is the arrangment of the outputs to the rings in the plug. The Advent's input is wired like this:

  • Tip = L+
  • Ring 1 = R+
  • Ring 2 = Ground
  • Ring 3 = Composite Video

Might be worth $20 to find out...

So this would plug into the Advent port mounted on the dash?

That's my thought - if so, it may be a one-wire solution to get streaming audio and video out of the bottom dock.

I know the new iPods and iPhones look for the authentication chip before they turn on the video output, so I don't know if it's iPod Touch/iPhone 4 compatible since I've never ordered one (and I don't own an iPhone! ), so that may be a question for the manufacturer.

Ok so maybe I'm way off track here, but would this potentially allow us to hook the USB portion to the factory USB port, and then run this 3.5 mm plug from the advent plug to an iPod or iPhone for when we want video?

I may be your guinea pig for this...

Or better yet the piece in the link I posted could be mounted in the upper glove box or center console, that way our iPods could be plugged in out of sight. I've read that the dash mounted USB port is dealer installed and that a second 12 volt receptacle is removed and taped up in the dash to insert the USB port. So potentially we could have 2 dash mounted 12 volt outlets and our USB/3.5mm receptacle for the jlink in the upper glove box or center console. Can anyone confirm any of this?

These two parts are what's supposedly needed to plug the second 12 volt outlet back in:

Outlet: 25774623

Cover: 20983936

Sorry to get off track....but all these pieces working together could be one attractive package for audio/video from our iPod/iPhone into the OGM-1 all while it being hidden.

Hey Walt,

What about using this to be a direct plug in for the jlink cable in-dash? Obviously the rca's would have to be adapted back to 3.5mm male end, but this could work?

Can't use this because it's only got stereo audio RCA outputs - we need video as well. I pointed this piece out to Advent as an example of the piece we need, but I guess this thing is HUGE and made for boats.

We then had the conversation with them about providing a more factory USB/AUX jack, but there's nothing yet available, and I'll report if anything does show up...

Crap I thought maybe joining this and the original item that you posted on this page would get the job done!

Thanks, thought it was worth a shot!

Not really - this would only be a very nice one-wire solution to get streaming content out of the iPhone. Remember, any time the deck sees the iPod/iPhone plugged into the USB jack, it uses the USB for audio in and the AUX for video in and will only play video content that is stored on the device.

With this type of plug (if it works), you should be able to get audio and video from a streaming source on the AUX input.

I can confirm that the 2nd power receptacle is taped up in the dash and that you do have the correct part #'s to remove your factory usb and add the power receptacle in its place. For my OGM1 install, I removed the factory usb, used a usb adapter to attach the cable to the medialink pod behind the dash, then remounted the factory usb in the upper glovebox. For the aux connection, I researched options forever and finally found a female to female 4-pole connection that I added in the glovebox next to the usb.

Here is a pic of my install, let me know if you want more information. I may create a new thread since I have not seen anyone put all of this information together. My goal was to make the install look as stock as possible and I did not like the look of the medialink pod. The ipod touch fits perfectly on the left side of the upper glovebox, could not fit more securely.

NCSierra thank you!!!! This is exactly what I'm after!!! How did you mount the female to female connection??

Do you have a link to where you bought it?

Thank you for posting this! I like you do not want the media pod viable and didnt want a "dead" USB port left in the dash. I think quite a few people will appreciate your info.

The connector is made to be mounted. I just drilled a hole in the glovebox and that connector is threaded with a nut on the backside. I have it jumpered to the medialink using a 4-pole male to male 3.5mm cable.

I spent a lot of time researching and asking questions from Walt and others on the best way to do this... I will create a new thread with all of the parts and info that I used for my install.

If you, or anyone else, has the part number for the factory USB I'd be much appreciative. My '09 doesmpnt have a USB port but it would be easy enough to mount just like you have.

USB port : 25966008

Cable: 20828635

And then you need this to adapt the factory USB cable to plug into the advent media pod: http://www.amazon.com/USB-Male-Mini-Female-Adapter/dp/B001VLIL3K/ref=pd_3
