OGM-1 Weirdness? Try reinstalling firmware...

Recommended Posts

We've been seeing a few weird issues on some customer's OGM-1's recently, and the only common theme is that they are really strange problems that don't make a lot of sense (for instance - the volume control all of a sudden works backwards - :freak: )

If you see strange issues that don't have any obvious cause, rather than spending tons of time diagnosing it, a very quick fix may be to just reinstall the firware. This process takes about five minutes to do and pretty much guarantees that the deck is back to factory spec when you're done.

We've seen that this fixes almost all of the strange stuff and saves time and hassle.

You can check the version installed in your deck by hitting "SETUP>INFO", then reading the top line "MCU" - It should look like this:

If it does NOT read "OGM1-59-11-10-28-U1", download the latest firmware at the link below.

Also, keep in mind that we're due for another firmware update within a couple weeks, so you may be doing this again very soon.

The OGM-1 firmware updates are always found at http://voxxsupport.com/downloads/OGM1/

Thanks for the help Walt. I had this problem (very strange), but the install of the firmware fixed it right up.

It's funny because I had it too. I thought I was the only one. After reinstalling the firmware I was back to perfect

I'll have to try it when I get off work.. My volume lags when I adjust it and there is a huge lag when changing songs on a CD...

I know it seems like a broken record when I say how amazing it is to finally work with a product I don't have to make any excuses for, but I have to say it again about working with Advent and the OGM-1!

When we initially saw signs of weird issues as noted above, I sent an email to the Advent engineers on 2/5 and told them of the problems we were seeing. It certainly got everyone's attention!

I got this in email tonight at 5:17PM:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

It has recently come to our attention that under certain conditions customers may experience a problem, following installation, whereby the knobs are working backwards and the buttons are doing different functions. This issue only affects the latest production build of the OGM1 as well as the first production of the ******** and ****.

We believe this is caused by the CAN data being scrambled when the installer does not disconnect the battery or at minimum shut the ignition off. A hard reboot does not clear this portion of the memory. A fresh install of the firmware does correct the problem. By tomorrow, we will post a firmware update to the Advent site. This update will not only allow installers to re-flash the unit, but it will also prevent the CAN data from being corrupted if the unit is installed with the battery connected and ignition is on.

Remember, it is always good practice to disconnect the battery when installing a new head unit, especially in vehicles where CAN data is being read by the radio. This is called out in the installation instructions included with every radio.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

If anyone has any doubts as to how aggressive Advent is towards solving our issues, this should remove ANY doubt!

To be able to identify this weird problem and rewrite the firmware to fix it within 48 hours is SUPERHUMAN!

Advent ROCKS!

Has anyone else loaded the new firmware? I loaded it at lunch, and I noticed a couple things in the few minutes I played with it. First, the warning message on the camera screen is now a red font on a semi-transparent banner, it's better, but I'm hoping this isn't the final fix in the firmware we're expecting any day now. XM presets do some weird stuff. For example; I tuned to channel 96, and held down the first preset button. It set the preset to channel 67, and tuned the radio to channel 47. I didn't try any others because I had to get back to work.

i only set a couple xm presets and they worked fine. i dont have my camera installed so i cant confirm the box. i also dont think this was the new firmware update since the xm still seeks instead of changing presets with the steering wheel. i think it was just to fix the backwards knobs and the issue with the hard buttons.

mine did this right after the update, but if you leave it on long enough, the xm channels will get refreshed and its back to normal.

This is NOT the final firmware that we've been waiting for - only a release to fix the problem with the latest production models with the weird problems.

Was informed this morning that the new update is still being validated by Pandora and will be released when they sign off on it. No firm ETA yet, but soon.

XM presets should be fixed in that release.

The camera view fix you see in this release is the final fix for that problem, I believe. Although it's not been moved, you can see the hitch, right?

I'm not sure, I don't have my hitch on now... I may try this weekend. As started above, the XM preset issue I was having seems to have resolved itself.

I also had the volume control / Tuner backwards issue as well as my buttons on the sides not doing what they were programed to do. I upgraded to the latest firmware that was 10282011 and it resolved the issue. But then I noticed that today when I switched from FM to XM the volume on XM was very low, could barely hear it. I had to turn the volume up to 40 to get at the same level that my FM was set which is 10. Needless to say that when I switched from XM to FM the volume level was way too high as it was set to 40 on XM. So I upgraded today to the latest firmware 02042012 in hopes that would take care of the issue. Well the same thing is happening. I will say that the volume levels are equal when I switch from FM to AM, IPod and DVD/CD. It seems to be XM that has the low volume level.

Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue.

Also I would like to say that Walt is the man!!! The customer service and knowledge this guy has is Amazing !!
