Finally getting the Advent OGM-1

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. So after countless hours of research and reading all the forums on here, I have decided to pull the trigger on a Advent OGM-1. I obviously went with Walt from ADC mobile. My check is on the way to him as I type. I have a 2007 Chevy LTZ with bose and rear entertainment system. I am getting the head unit and harness from walt. I am getting the kenwood cmos 200 backup camera off amazon and will have a local shop do that part of install. After watching video I am sure I can handle the main deck install myself, but the rear camera may be better left to the pros. So a couple questions guys. Whats the best way to get a custom splash screen image to Walt. I don't know exactly what I want to do with that. I'm a huge sports fan, SF giants and SF 49ers. Should I put one of those logos, should I just put a clean chevy logo. Input would be great. I am so excited to finally do this project and will take pictures and post along the way.

If you want to do a customer splash screen just email Walt the image. It needs to be 800x480 I believe. You can get his email from the ADC mobile website under the contact us section. I actually would recommend something that gives your OGM-1 a little personal touch. My custom splash screen is in the middle of my signature below. It is just a subtle NY logo in the middle of the bow tie. Having something personal on the screen might also help to verify the unit (or truck) if it were ever stolen.

As far as the splash screen is concerned...I like to keep it as stock as possible....thats why i went with the

Tony,

The only problem with your image is that it has to be at least 800 x480 pixels and has to be cropped to that ratio as well.

This is only 572 x 384 or so...

Walt.....you are correct.....

But when we made it up

we noticed the splash screen program has an option to fill in background color

so we filled it in black....and the result is what u see below....

Sorry for the dust on the screen ,,, I was horrified when I saw it lol

Tony

P S..... thats a pretty low quality pictire.....it looks crisp and flawless in the vehicle

Kinda hard to find perfect vehicle specific images that are 800 x480 on google

Anybody have any suggestions on where to find cool images of this resolution??

@ Klyde. I like how you did the NY in the chevy bowtie. How did you get that picture. Did you find it, or do it yourself, or just tell walt that's what u wanted?

Do a Google search for "Buick Logo" - when it comes back, choose "Images" from the left column. When the images come back, choose "Large" for size, then you'll see th e first one (on my search anyway) is a 5549 x 5826 logo crom www.cartype.com.

Pretty much anything that starts out bigger than 800 x 480 can be used.

PS: If anyone out there's a motorsports fanatic, I own and run a motorsports photography website www.nwspeedshots.com that has over 200,000 images of all types of motorsports from ChampCar, Indycar, Nascar, Unlimited hydroplanes, vintage racing, etc. and can make screens out of anything you find there.

I'm also the webmaster and onboard video cameraman for the Air National Guard H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Series, so if anyone wants some cool hydro shots, I'm the guy to ask...

Got off the phone with walt today and my advent should be on it's way shortly. So of course I watched all the videos AGAIN and have been re-reading the forums. My question to everyone is this.....

How and where are you installing the medialink pod? I have a 2007 tahoe ltz. Do I even need to install it? Any pictures or comments would be greatly appreciated.

I don't plan on watching any videos from iphone, but it would be nice to charge it another way beside ugly cigarette adapter.

If you want to use any external music players at all you'll need the media hub. Also, if memory serves the Bluetooth mic connects to this harness. I installed mine in the upper glovebox, which the SUVs and LTZ/SLT trucks don't have. I'm gonna try and get some pics to share this weekend.

Quick update. My ogm is in town at local ups and will be delivered tomorrow. I feel like a kid Christmas eve. I prepped as much as I could. I pulled off the trim and took out the old head unit. Walt gave me a hint and said to run the heater full blast for about twenty minutes to get the cab nice and toasty. Said trim comes off easier. I think removing that trim may be the hardest part. You really have to yank it. Kind of hairy. Anyway all set to go now for tomorrow. One more thing. Make sure all CDs and DVDs are out of old unit. I forgot and had to pkug back in to get out.

I'm sure you'll do fine with it. I used the mic mount with the double sided tape and stuck it on the wire track for the rear view mirror and then ran the mic wire up the track for a clean look. I also popped out the top glove box to mount the media link there and this also helped with running wires. Two T15 torx screws and a solid yank- the clips on the box are very snug.

I think that's all I have for tips. I can say leaving CDs behind hasn't been a worry in ages as I haven't used CDs since I traded in the Tacoma as my Subaru and now this truck have hookups for mp3 players.
