My Advent install

No. For whatever reason you can't use the factory USB cable as a jumper. It just won't work. The factory cable is just left open on both ends as it is part of the harness. I just used a male A to male mini and plugged that into the backside of the port on the dash trim.

I am going to do my install this weekend I like the idea of retaining the factory usb port I am not a big fan on that block. I am actually trying to find a 4 pole extension cable so I drill a small hole and have the aux port right next to the usb.

On your fix did you plug your mini end to what used to plug in to the radio end?

I just finished doing this same thing. You'll need a 4 pole 3.5mm cable, which I purchased here: http://www.kvconnection.com/3-5mm-4-Pole-TRRS-Male-to-Male-Cables-s/7897.htm

and a USB Male A to USB Female Mini B which I purchased here: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10314&cs_id=1031401&p_id=4817&seq=1&format=2

Not sure why the factory cable didn't work for Mike, but with that USB adapter I was able to plug it right into the J-Link box behind the dash. If you don't care about video you're done there, otherwise you can use the 3.5mm Extension cable to run to the factory USB location and you've got video as well.

Great that was what I was looking for. Do you find your self using the 3.5 ever. I dont plan on watching ipod video on the advent. I just listen to music and pandora of my iphone.

Did you mount the 3.5 cable ?

I'm the same way, I mostly wanted to be able to charge and play music off my iPhone using the factory USB port in the center console, so for the five minutes it took to install that adapter it was a no brainer. I'm planning on running the 3.5mm cable, but that will require disassembly of the center console, and video isn't that big of a priority for me, so it may be a while before I get around to it.
