expensive brake pads

Had the Chevy dealer change my front brake pads on my 2007 tahoe. The pads themselves cost 182 dollars on the invoice. Does that seem high to anyone? My porsche has front pads that go for 150 - but a chevy truck?

That's about right. Figure in how much the pads would cost you and how long it would take you to change them. It's decently priced.

Labor was probably $75.00 or so an hour......Pads shouldn't really cost all that much, especially for one set. They probably included the labor in that price and didn't list it? Did they cut the rotors maybe and tack that on there?

I should have read the OP better. I just realized the pads alone cost that. If they put on original equipment, then yeah, that original stuff is crazy priced. The advantage line that GM has is cheaper and of as good as quality. Next time ask them to use that....

this was just the pad cost. total for the job was 445.

yes Sir that dealer charge you right, and that's why i have set of jacks, stands and tools, so I can drink some beer and eat something good - and get a good workout no need west my time at gym

Wowee. Looks like they sold you OEM GM brake pads, and not ACDelco Durastop pads. Durastops run around $85 or so, and if they are running a special, a little less. Only time we ever really use OEM GM pads is if its warranty.

Did they give you any options for quotes? Good, better, best?

I wasnt offered a choice of pads. I told them I was starting to hear the wear indicators - they did a pad replacement. I figured 200 or so for the whole job. I figured wrong.

how many miles on the truck...did you see the old pads...unless you had well over 100000 miles on the truck it should not have had worn out pads and if they had sold you the durastops you would have lifetime warranty.

The OEM pads work great. They are excellent pads. I tried ACDelco Durastop and they weren't as good. Get OEM pads, but get them at an ACDelco jobber, NOT the dealer. They are significantly cheaper.

I do all the work on my other cars. The truck is the only one i dont have time for.

Durastops tend to have more brake noise than the OEM pads also .
