Accidentally drained front diff partially. What to do?

I just changed the oil for the first time (Royal Purple syn and Mobil 1 filter FTW) but I went full retard and pulled the drain plug on the front diff at first. Reached under, determined it to be 13mm, pulled, watched it start to drain and wondered "Huh, why the hell is it, like, gray? Looked at the end of the bolt and saw some metal sticking to it like it was magnetic and thought "huh, WTF?" again. Then I went "OH SHIT!" and put the plug back on.

It must have free flowed for 5 full seconds or so. It did not appear to be slowing down when I re plugged it. I checked the manual and could find a capacity for it. How much of it did I probably let out? What is the capacity?

Okay to drive for a little while until I can get in to the local shop? (will just go ahead and get the diff fluid replaced next week)

So stupid.

So I got a quart of 80w-90 valvoline durablend. Before I finish dinner and go home...will that do?

It does not require full synthetic, correct?

I would have gone with a nice full syn but they didn't have any in 80w-90

1. Let it finish draining

2. Fill to fill hole with new oil

3. Stop worrying, its just a ****ing diff

Prior to this my only diff experience came from pulling the cover off my Camaro's in the infield and having pieces fall out.

I will probably buy another quart today. Due to space restrictions I could not get it filled high enough to feel the fluid level with my finger. I drained the rest of the old fluid before adding new. I still have about 1/4 of the quart but I can't tilt t high enough to get it in and not all of what came out ended up in the diff

I would just make it a full change out. Pull the drain plug, let it all drain out and refill with fresh gear oil. Then you will be good to go and it will clean out any wear metals. Make sure you clean off the magnet on the drain plug as well.

Absolutely. Won't hurt and will only help.
