Vibration after new wheels and tires????

Well I finally got the new wheels and tires on (i'll post pics as soon as i get a chance). I now have a vibration coming from the rear at 70+ mph. I do have the drum retainer rings removed. I'm wondering if this is a balancing issue? or if its just as a result of being aftermarket???

 

Wheels are 20x9 Gear Alloy Recoil 715c's

Tires are 275/60/20 Nitto Terra Grapplers

Do the wheels and tires run true?

Any out-of-round tires must be replaced.

 

The larger, wider and more aggressive the tire, the more out of round they tend to be.

Are they hub centric wheels or did they come with hub rings? My wheels are not hub centric, but I have no vibration at any speed. Hub rings might help, and should have come with your wheels.

the wheels are not hubcentric and did come with rings, and yes i used them...i may try and switch the back and front and see what happens...

That might do the trick, also one could not have been balanced correctly.

My dad bought some tires for his duely a while back . he would get viborations and took them in 2 times to get them allighed properly and still were not balance . He went to a other place and told them the story and they did it but it took along time for them to balance the tires. Dad did some research on his tires and apparently they now get/make the rubber in china so the quality control is not there anymore . So that is why the tire guys where having such a hard time .

 

My truck at over about 80kms would viborate. I got them rebalanced and it fixed the problem . So you might just need a simple rebalance thing and if they cant do it right might not hurt to take them someplace else and tell your story .

I would start from the beginning.... as in take them back to where you bought them and make them fix it. At the same time make sure that if they are not hub centric you get the hub rings for it. If they are balanced with hub rings it's either the tire itself or possibly a bad hub assembly (kind of a long shot depending on mileage of the vehicle).

The truck does NOT vibrate with stock wheels and tires on the back so i'm pretty certain its nothing with the truck. The wheels came mounted and balanced from the company i ordered them from so at this point i'm guessing they did a half a$$ed job balancing them, i think i'll start with a rebalance and go from there.

 

AND i'll have some pictures up tomorrow guys, i'm out of the state right now!

Balance the tires. Not all tire balance machines are created equally. For bigger tires (20"+) you need a heavy duty machine like roadforce balance.

Yeah I would recommend a re-balance, especially if you got them shipped to you mounted and balanced. I got mine that way from National Tire and Wheel....and they were terrible. Took them to a local tire shop and they said it looked like the NTW guys just slammed a case a beer and threw some weights on there, lol. Got them re-balanced and they're smooth as glass.

Thanks for the input guys, i'm taking them it into a local shop tomorrow to get rebalanced and i'll let you know how it turns out. I'll also get some pictures up soon we just got a monsoon today here in northern illinois so my truck is destroyed right now so i doubt anyone really want to see it like that.

Some advice for in the future, alignment will not cause a vibration. Tire/wheel balance vibations seem to occur mostly at 65mph to 75mph.

Ya i'm aware its not an alignment issue regardless, truck drives straight as an arrow.
