I think the guy that said unlocking and locking the TC wa referring to driving with the truck doing this, it is running in unlocked mode too much would cause more heat. And it would. It would also cause more wear to the friction material in the TC. The locking and unlockiing would likely be due to towing a trailer, that would cause a lot more heat because the TC would not be in radial flow mode, it would be in vortex flow mode.
