TPMS

Ok so i ordered new rims and tires and as part of the deal i got they were mounted and balanced....and I forgot TPMS. I don't really care for the system, because I don't trust it as much as a handheld gague. So if I don't put new ones on all I have to worry about is the light on the dash that I can ignore? Or do I need to put them on? I'm assuming I have to have the tires taken off after i already had them mounted

wont pass inspection with that light on. as much as you claim to like a hand held gauge better, a handheld gauge wont tell you if your tire pressure is dropping while youre driving if you happen to run over something. I would absolutely put them back in just to avoid all future issues

Yes you would only have to worry about ignoring the light on the dash. Whether that would fail you at inspection time depends on your state laws. MD only inspects emissions so if the check engine light isn't on, I think in MD you'd be fine. Dont know how OH works. Run without them and if you have an issue at inspection time, pickup a set and get them installed.

Personally I like the system. Yes I still check the tires with a hand held gauge but like rugged life said, the TPMS is real time so if I'm on a trip or just out I know if any of the tires is going low.

I agree with the previous posts, you could always try running without the sensors. However, you can find some on e-bay pretty cheap. As far as installing the sensors once the tires are mounted.....it depends on the wheel design...but usually a tire shop can just break down the outside bead, slip the sensor in, and air it back up....no need to take it completely off the rim and re-balance.

OH has no inspection correct?

So the only bother is the light. All my vehicles have the TPMS now and it is just another government mandated nanny that is a hassle. Especially so on the GMC due to the manual relearn process when rotating or swapping winter/summer tires.

ohio has inspection in a limited few counties i believe. not where i live though. so i guess i'll see how long i can deal with the light
