Auto Trac II vs. Dexron VI

Got a buddy that has ordered a rebuilt transfer case from someone because he's got the notorious pump rub hole. Two questions:

1) Selling store claims the rebuilt ones from GM already have the fix. I call hogwash, and that it's just a new clip, and not the actual fix (like the Merchant) fix. Can anyone confirm or deny?

2) Seller also claims we should use Dexron VI instead of the Auto Trac. Never heard of this. Any comments?

I agree. We talked about just replacing the back half of the case, as many have done. However, it has over 300000 miles on the clock.

Depends on the year/generation of the transfer case. My T-case take Auto Trak II fluid, however the newer ones call for Dex VI. I'd be asking more questions about this transfer case before installing any fluids into it.

It's an 02. Ive not heard one cross word about Auto Track II, so I don't yet see a reasin to do it differently.

Apparently, AutoTrack II is for TC's that have Auto 4x4 capability. Otherwise, use highest Dexron trans fluid (currently VI).

You cannot compare rebuilt to OEM. Its possible the rebuilts have internals that are Dexron VI compatiable. Only the seller/rebuilder would know for sure. The main difference, if I understand it correctly, is in the chemical make-up of the fluids, Dexron VI can possibly cause damage to seal and clutch material in OEM TC's but when its rebuilt, those concerns may no longer exist.
