I have a Craftsman 42" Tower combo. It is a nice box but kind of tall for me since I am 5' 7" and can't really see into the top compartment unless I am on my tippee toes.

My wife paid under a $1,000.00 for it on sale.

My Harley color boxes were only $700.00 and they are 42" boxes... with roller drawers, and included drawer liners too.

US GENERAL all the way

same good, solid steel...roller bearings in the drawers

slide locks

As long as you go with the "good" ones, as in their (I believe) Red boxes and accessories

For around a grand you can get the 5 foot box, top box, side locker, and probably the roll cart to boot!

Quality roll cart is ~150 with coupons!

And i mean a quality product...my shopmate bought a Blue Point and its smaller, less drawers, and well...blue haha

I could probably swap emblems with a Snapon and nobody would know

Only downside is that you build it yourself

Its the only picture of my box...I did a little spray painting with a stencil I made

Only the fun tools, It hold about 300+ lbs right now and getting her into the moving truck was no easy task, love the caster wheels and wheel locks

It's only a roll cart and it took 4 guys to beast it up the loading ramp

I can tell you all that these particular series/lineup of US GENERAL are great buys and are quality

I just moved...from outside of Atlanta, GA to Charlotte, NC

I worked for Honda...now I am unemployed but "working" on it...ha

Pretty miserable actually; Ive been fixing up the house for the last few weeks

Anybody have a Viper Tool Storage box? They look nice and they sell them at Sears so I could pay with plastic.

I see someone already mentioned how popular the US General boxes are on GJ. When it comes time for me to get a bigger box I'll likely go that route as well. For now, I have my old Mac 26" combo (rollaway, intermediate, top chest) that I used when I was a mechanic years ago. I had an older Craftsman combo, but gave the bottom to my dad and top to my neighbor. Two months ago, I had a homeowner's box I picked up for cheap at Sears; the bottom was a new Craftsman that had been damaged ($26 for a $105 box) and the top was from a new Stanley combo with similar damage ($45, but sold the bottom to my neighbor for $25). As mentioned elsewhere, though, I had a break-in while I was gone. Those boxes, and everything in them to include my Fluke meters, are gone. The Mac boxes were rummaged through, but besides my timing light, air tools and a few other tools, their contents were left intact.

The Mac box is no fun to move. I have to remove drawers just to pick the top up, and even empty the box's weight is much greater than its size would suggest.

I bilieve the tool boxes are similar to our trucks.. you can get a silverado with all the options and a base model with roll up windows and no carpet.. I have a cheap craftsman box that is basic, the drawers open uneven and very tough.. Its a cheap cheap model.. Now i have a Kobalt rolling bottom and mid section with nice bearing drawers, liners in each.. Its a very nice box.. It all depends on what you choose to pay! Ive seen very nice craftsman stuff thats half the price of the big names and feel the same,

I have a "65th Anniversary Edition" Snap-On Top, Bottom and Side box combination. Bought it about 25 years ago - in "as new" condition. The owner was moving out of State and needed cash... I paid about $0.25 on the dollar, based on his receipts from Snap-On. Even then - it was relatively expensive for me to use at home.

Prior to that - I had the top line Craftsman box. Built in the early 70's. Today Craftsman doesn't sell anything close to that quality.

A couple years ago - after looking closely at dozens of different brands, in the $1200.00 or less price range - I bought the H.F. 44" roll cabinet. It was such a bargain - it made everything else I looked at seem grossly Over-Priced - not to mention far more cheaply made.

A year later I bought a second one for my son, then a few months after that I bought a third one - which is a second one for me. I paid $349.99 for them when they were On-Sale - and picked them up myself at the local H.F. store.

Nothing I've found comes close in quality for less than twice the price - even then most at twice the price are not as good. The H.F. unit has a load capacity of 2600 lbs! The matching Top Box and Side Cabinets are very very reasonably priced as well.

I have recommended the H.F. Pro Series Tool Boxes to friends and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. They are top quality and represent true VALUE for your hard earned dollars.

I've got a Kobalt black roll around bottom box with the roller bearing drawers that I got on sale four or five years ago and it is a pretty good box. I have a top box that I bought in 1976 that has served me well over the years it was a Mac knock off from a small pre Harbor Freight type of tool store.

My son in law got a new roll around box and gave me his old Kobalt top box which is huge, it is about four foot wide and is about two and a half foot tall and is very heavy. I have only had it a few months but it seems to be a good box.

And in my truck I carry a Craftsman five drawer box with enough tools to make repairs on the farm or any where else I need to. :jester:

If you can find a used snapon box its the best way to go. First off all draws sliders and wheels and casters have a lifetime guarantee. All draws and the box itself do as well as long as the damage is not from being dropped or pried open. Doesnt matter if you bought it new or used they are the only company i have seen stand behind there product for life not a year or two.
