Man talk about the run around and not knowing what is going on. Other dealer trying to sell me two dash harnesses, steering wheel, clock spring, body control module, and radio etc.

Told them/ dealer i know folks that have done this modification and that is not correct. So they are checking again. Told them i have a radio and they just have to program the truck to read the UK3 code i think it was and DIC items as well. Statement was really.

Sounds like i will need to go to another dealer or see some of my ole GM techs that i use to work with to get this done.

Terrible nobody wants to help people out any more. Especially when i want to give them the coin to do this...Well looking at getting trade for the parts. :-)

Terrible.

so if i read correctly just pull steering wheel and plug and play. no removing the IPC? any tricks to doing the swap?

I just did this. Remove steering wheel. Remove column covers. Remove clock spring and when you unplug something plug the new clock spring into that plug. There are like 14 plugs. One will be left hanging if you don't have quadrasteer. Take your time it took me 2 hrs to do it. After its done go tp the dealer and tell them you want your bcm programmed for the stereo controls and the UPC done for the dic

Well i am going for the conversion in two weeks. Talked to dealer last weekend to reprogram the DIC and UK3. They confirmed with GM that it can be done. So getting the steering wheel with buttons 10364488 and clock spring 26101829 for the conversion.

Then truck will have all the options i wanted. So hope all goes well. will let you know.

Well the conversion is complete. I now have the steering wheel controls and all the options on my 06 Silvy. All went smoothly like you all said for the steering control conversion. THANKS to all of you for your help.

Greatly Appreciated.

I don't know what the dealership is talking about. I did the swap. A new steering wheel and clock spring is all you need. I pulled the steering wheel (without a steering wheel puller no less) and carefully routed the new clock spring wiring the exact same as the original. There are additional plugs which are easy to hook up since each plug has a different number of pins, so you can't mess it up. The harness has one extra long plug. That doesn't get used unless you have the 4 wheel steering option. Once all of this is wired up, the DIC is still not recognized. You need to go to a dealer, they will call GM and get the proper code to enter into the tech II that unlocks that feature for your vehicle. I heard this is very important, because GM adds this code to your VIN in their database so that any future computer flashing will have this feature and you won't lose the functions. Once they are done with the Tech II, you are done! The DIC will work and the steering wheel controls will control the stereo. End of story. It might take an hour or two to get the wiring done, but if I can do it, anybody can.

Like I said before, there are liability implications here because of the air bag, so GM does not want people messing with the system. This is why they raised the price to of the clock spring to ridiculous level. That clocksping was in the $ 150 range back in 2006, I remember that. At this point I would not spend $ 500 on a new clock spring just to have pushbuttons on the steering wheel. If I can find a cheap clockspring in a junkyard somewhere, I might do it.

Super super late to this, but I just finished fixing myself a 2006 Silverado Extended Cab and in desperate need of this. I own a scrapyard so I have access to the whole steering column, the BCM and the radio and speedometer out of the same truck (2006 Sierra SLT) I should be able to straight plug and play this, right? (Obviously I'll change the airbag lol) Thanks for any future responses in an old thread lol

All that is needed is wheel, clockspring, and programming.
