Locks that you key to your ign switch key

I keep my ignition key on a separate ring than my other keys, all on the same carabiner. That way I've got my remote fob always on my side whether the key is in the ignition or not. Also easy for service, they get the key but not the fob, and it keeps a brand new key and remote fob locked up in the safe.

Sarah, why do you keep making people so angry? If people wanted your opinion they would join some kind of forum where people share opinions...

I'm with Sarah. That is way too much wear and tear for a key. GM needs to bring back the seperate key for the door locks! :rollin: I can't believe this thread went this long on one statement!

If you are worried about your key then you need to have a copy made that you don't use that way when you wear one down you have the origional to make an additional copy. I guess copies got more expensive for the gmt900 did GM finally move to chips?

I have 10 keys on my keychain along with the door fob and an rfid security fob, I would love to cut down on some of the clutter and really miss the days where I only had two or three.

Does anyone know how easy these are to break into. They really have my attention now they just seem like a screwdriver could set them to a new key mold.

Their stuff is built very well. I have their hitch pin, several locks, and the cable lock, they are all good locks. No sir, you cannot get into them with a screwdriver. Go to their site and read how a new key is used to set the tumbler.

BTW- I am not affiliated with these people, I just happen to like their stuff and the idea on one key working it all. I actually found out about them when watching Stacy Davids Gearz show.

Thanks, I just thought from the video there it could be possible and wanted to hear from someone who owned it not just the company that sold it. I do really like this but they are a little more expensive than what I want to pay at the moment, maybe one or two in the near future my bike lock key is actually pretty bolty so that cable lock is looking nice.

I keep the keys for my hitch, trailer pin and atv all on another keychain in my truck. Usually when I'm hooking to a trailer I leave the keys in the ignition or I'm loading the atv anyway. My daily keys have my truck key, office key and a RFID fob, I don't even carry a house key on me.

I picked up the locking hitch pin and cable lock today. Oddly, they were cheaper here than they are on the company's US website. They work exactly the same as the locking tailgate kit GM sells. Cable is good for keeping big expensive things in the box of you truck when you stop for something to eat. The padlock they sell would be good for the trailer tongue lever thing you push down to lock tongue to hitch ball. One key for all the truck related locks.

Pintle locks are a must have, kinda helps keep people from stealing boat trailers, plus I lock the pintle closed if I have to park a trailer somewhere without the truck.

It'd be really handy to have a matched cable lock for my bed.

Door lock key?

I know older cars and trucks had them but other than using the door key cylinder once a month to keep it from freezing up, I NEVER use a key to lock/unlock my truck. It's either the fob or the phone if I second guess myself and can't remember if I locked the truck up.

I do have to say the idea of wearing out a key is a bit laughable though. My truck came with two, one is used every time the truck is driven and the other is only used when it goes in for service (doesn't have my personal keys on it). I doubt I'll have the truck long enough for that to be an issue but if it does, I'll essentially have a like new key that I can start using. Newer keys seem thicker anyhow. And I do wonder how long it will be before everyone adopts those worthless, stupid key fob things. I seriously will not buy a vehicle that has that stupid shit. I love technology but power buttons are for computers, not vehicles.

Geez grandpa how old are you LOL. That stupid shit as put it is a convenience like

having a remote start in winter. Yea they can fail like any other piece of technology unless you live in a log cabin with outdoor plumbing LOL. BTW never seen a key fob although for the newer generation its called a REMOTE. Never seen one on a computer as you mentioned. That would be kind of cool. :)

Us old folks still call the remote control for the tv a "converter"

"for the newer generation it is called a REMOTE"?

How old of a term is that oldtimer????

The "device" that is a "remote", ignition key and keyless push button start (imagine that) is termed a "fobik" by the manufacturer.

And yes, given a choice I would rather just have a plain old mechanical key.

The fob is called the remote, by any 3rd party security system company. OEM car manufacturers might call it a key fob. I use to do install for 20 years LOL.
