Could just have a plain jane key cut to match the ingition key and use it for these extras.. I realize that kind of defeats half the purpose with now carrying an extra key anyways BUT it is pretty unique and I imagine harder to pick than a standard run of the mill bike-esque lock.

Why worry about wear? Not like ur going to put it one and take it off that often!

thats interesting but id worry about the extra wear on the ignition key

Do you worry about wearing out the ignition key when you make a trip to the corner store in the rain? Or refuse to use the key to unlock the door on the truck? Don't think I have ever worn an ignition key out on any vehicle I have ever owned, and have not heard of anyone having that problem either.

That sounds really handy to me, I have a separate key for my pin lock and it is a pain in the but to keep up with that key as I do not keep it in or on my truck key.

Just one key would be a great deal for me.

Where do you get such an item ?

More wear happens to your key in your pocket that will ever happen being used to open locks or start your truck. My brother took his car key with him to Vietnam in 65 (He didn't want anyone to drive his car) and when he got home it was so sloppy in the ignition he had to get a new key made. :jester:

Wearing the key out is not a good argument, it is absurd to say the least. Not having a large key ring and being able to find the key easily is alot easier for me.

wow i was just saying.. jees.. my buick key for my 96 lesabre has a little bit of a bend to it from being used for 16 years all im saying is using it in locks alot can just add to the wear, but maybe having a newer vehicle its not that big of a problem.. im not hating on the idea it was just a thought

I'm with Sarah. That is way too much wear and tear for a key. GM needs to bring back the seperate key for the door locks! :rollin: I can't believe this thread went this long on one statement!

Door lock key?

I know older cars and trucks had them but other than using the door key cylinder once a month to keep it from freezing up, I NEVER use a key to lock/unlock my truck. It's either the fob or the phone if I second guess myself and can't remember if I locked the truck up.

I do have to say the idea of wearing out a key is a bit laughable though. My truck came with two, one is used every time the truck is driven and the other is only used when it goes in for service (doesn't have my personal keys on it). I doubt I'll have the truck long enough for that to be an issue but if it does, I'll essentially have a like new key that I can start using. Newer keys seem thicker anyhow. And I do wonder how long it will be before everyone adopts those worthless, stupid key fob things. I seriously will not buy a vehicle that has that stupid shit. I love technology but power buttons are for computers, not vehicles.
