Good Running Boards?

The oem nerf bars mount using existing holes in the rocker panels not the existing body mount bolts. There are alot of noise and squeaking issues. Two mechanics I brought my truck to said they dont like the nerf bars that mount using the body mount bolts. They said the rubber bushings are made to flex independently and when you mount a nerf bar to them you are essentially turning 3 independant body mounts into one. They said thats why GM mounts the oem ones to the rockers. My friend has the 6 inch oval oems and they are rock solid and still look good after 2 winters of plowing and construction. I had aries 4 inch on my truck that mounted with the body mounts and they had a little flex to them no matter how tight I made them. I took them off because of noise(squeaking) issues.

again for someone who was recently on the market, i had decided on the gm oem 6 inch. i wonder where or who installed the steps, if they have noise issues. i installed mine in about 35 minutes, using a torque wrench and not blasting them on with an impact gun. i love the look of them. saying that i have two neighbours and father in law who recently all put on dee zee oval steps. the are all happy with them and they seem to be well made and relatively inexpensive.

Your post makes no sense. You say the oem are no good but then your buddy's oem are great...? I have 6" oem ovals. They are solid. So your aftermarket aries where no good. We are talking oem.

He is saying if they mount to the 18 or 19 mm bolts that attach the cab to the frame run because they squeak and do not let the truck flex as designed. If they mount to the Pre tapped holes in the rocker panel as do the OEM bars you are golden.

Yes sorry for the confusion. Oem (rocker mount) is good. Body mount bolts ( the ones I bought) are bad.

What ever ones you get stay away from the ones that mount using the existing body mount bolts. Too many issues.

Is this how the oem steps mount? What kind of issues are we talking about here?

I am really debating on if I should go with black or polished steps.

I think we are a little confused here. The OEM steps mount to the rocker panels = good. Some nerf bars mount to the body bolts = very bad. They will squeak rattle and pop.

Looks like I will be going OEM. Now I just got to decide what ones! Thanks everyone!

well I took a walk around the lot to get a look at how the different steps looked.

This is what I ended up with!
