Front Brakes

I was just wondering how the front brakes hold up on these newer trucks.  I had gotten 90K out of my first set on my 93 Sonoma. Yea I know it was a small truck and I due a lot of highway driving. Just curious to see how these newer ones hold up. Our 98 Suburban only made it to 12k before I needed to turn the rotors and 30K before I needed to do a brake job. So far I have 25k on my truck now and they still have over half a pad left.

Just looking to see how these things hold up. I have decided the next brake job I do I'm going to install the new ceramic pads. Talked to a shop here in town and they highly recommended them. The one guy had them on his 93 Suburban and loves them. Hasn't had to turn his rotors once since he installed them and he has 40k on the pads.  Sounds good to me. :thumb:

Ok now I tried to post this as a poll but it said one choice was not a poll. How do you set up the poll? How do you put the choice buttons that you click on??????????????

I've got about 45k on my '99 Sierra 50/50 highway/local and 20% of the time with a good load.  Pads are about 1/2 worn.  I'm happy with that.

I had my rear pads replaced at 18K under warranty

Fronts are fine except when it is damp, rainy, or after i wash my truck.  They made a loud clunking sound till they dry/warm up

ever think about cryogenically treating rotors?  I am doing my snior design project on the fatigue properties of D2 tool steel (heat treated vs heat treated + Cryogenic treatment)

http://www.300below.com is the company treating them for me.

I have no idea on price of rotors.  My parts (3/8" diameter 3 inches long and notched out to half the dia in the middle (rounded) are being done free, well kinda i have to submit the results to them so they can give customers information on the fatigue life and other data if they need it.

if i remember correctly all the 99+ come with ceramic pads from the factory and they should be replaced with this type only. If you dont they make sqeal and have more brake dust than normal.
