I've never heard of so much trouble with just ONE product of the line.

Although I agree with you that other brands also have their flaws it can't hurt to jump over the fence and try the neighbors cherry's."

Btw, I bought my truck to drive it and not to look at... :) .

The troubles that you speak of, are you talking about the brackets in particular or the GMT900 line or GM trucks in general? My '02 2500HD was perfect for 89,000 miles, my '07 VortecMAX the same for 5 years and 42,000 miles. My current truck is too new to tell, but awesome to this point. Have you had trouble with your GMC? I appreciate why you bought it, but it's still nice to look at. As for the neighbor's cherries, be careful they could be the pits...

11 Silverado. Unpainted on passenger side with no rust whatsoever. It's just strange how every model of vehicle has good ones and not so good ones; some with no issues and some with nagging problems. Two years in to ownership and so far mine appears to be one of the good ones.

We're going a little OT...I'm talking about the GMT900 in general.

What I'm trying to say is that there is always something with a car. No matter what brand it is.

But what I can hear and read and experience my self with my truck exceeds everything I've known before.

Just a sample...once I used to drive a 86 G20 van. Simple technology, awful fuel mileage but easy to fix. Even with all the vacuum s*&t on it. When there was trouble I did not have to plug in to a computer to get it fixed. Just by looking at the vacuum lines for half an hour I was able to find the broken hose and rap it in duct tape it...lol. At midnight on a back road in the middle of nowhere and w/o cell phone.

Even I can see that it is necessary to make cars fuel efficient and environmentally friendly.

But GM (as other car manufacturer too) claim to test the new cars and engines for zillions of miles...

You really wanna tell me they didn't find out about the oil consumption on the AFM engine? Or is the test engine different than the one you can buy?

To me it seams like: "Oh sh*t. We've got a problem but no time and money to fix it. Let's get the engine on the road and let the costumer deal with it..."

That's a step back imo.

And since I call myself a "GM guy" I want GM to be better than Ford and Dodge!

Just for the better look of the GMT900 line anyway...lol

so long

j-ten-ner, I'm sorry you've had issues. I've been pretty luck to this point, especially considering that I'm not real easy on my vehicles. It will be interesting to see what the 2014 platform brings to the table, and what engines bring it to the table.

Okay just to get back on subject(sorry, my bad) no rust here. Yet. First Iowa winter fast approaching...

Saw this thread, so I took a look under the hood of our Sierra.

We have rust on the passenger side

But no rust on the painted driver's side

Go figure. It's a 2011 GMC Sierra Extended Cab SLT built on April 15th, 2011

Are you planning to mention this to your dealer? Feel free to contact me if you need additional assistance. Thank you.

There are certain metal parts on these trucks that are deliberately not painted so so they will rust. Examples are front hubs, rotors, suspension arms, and a few other parts. Typically these are heavy thick parts which will not weaken by rusting on the surface. However, brackets that hold body parts together should be either properly painted or galvanized. Anything else is unacceptable.
