is this fender bracket rusting on your 2007 to current trucks?

I don't have that part rusting, but I have a little rust on some of the accessory pulleys.

Grab some PJ-1 chain lube for a motorcycle, or some Dupont teflon chain lube, and give it a good soaking. PJ-1 will creep into all the crevices, then once the carrier flashes off, it leaves super sticky grease behind. Stops rust in its tracks.

Hmmm...no rust on that part on my '11; also no rust on the same part on the L/H side, as it's painted black.

Did an oil change today so I looked over all brackets/hardware under the hood and I've got nothing like what you've got going on. Definitely would find a competant dealer to fix you up.

I'n a little late to this thread, but I finally looked at the brackets. I have no visible rust on any of them. As Wolfman john pointed out, the driver's side brackets are painted black, while the passenger side are raw metal. Not sure why they'd only paint one side.

Maybe GM is starting to put the 2012 models together with leftover parts from 2007...lol.

PS. I know I'm just only one little guy in the big pool of owners of GM products. But something like this makes me more and more thinking about to buy a different brand.

If you switch brands because of the brackets being painted on one side and not the other I would not pay too close attention to what you end up buying. Most manufacturers have little idiosyncrasies that are associated with their own brand and or vehicle(s) in their line up. I have had nothing but good luck with GM, from my first, a GTO, to my current. I've had everything in between, Buicks, two Saturns and four Chevy trucks just to name a few. It certainly sounds as if this painted/unpainted bracket deal is not isolated, so I won't sweat it. Besides, where would you go when your GMC looks that good?

They all (manufacturers) have their problems. Personally I think I will stay with GM a good long time.

Mark, you nailed it, with a lot less words than me. Must be bedtime...

Saw this thread, so I took a look under the hood of our Sierra.

We have rust on the passenger side

But no rust on the painted driver's side

Go figure. It's a 2011 GMC Sierra Extended Cab SLT built on April 15th, 2011

I think alot has to do with the battery exhaust fumes for not painting it and galvanizing instead. Battery fumes are extreamely corrosive.

I've owned a lot of GM products too. Even back in Germany where driving an American car can be quite expensive. I did not care 'cause it was always fun.

And WAY LESS trouble as me and other GM truck owners have experienced with the late models.

Aren't we supposed to move forward in quality and technology?

GM took a big step back.

I've never heard of so much trouble with just ONE product of the line.

Although I agree with you that other brands also have their flaws it can't hurt to jump over the fence and try the neighbors cherry's.

Btw, I bought my truck to drive it and not to look at... :) .

As for the bracket.

It is the same one my truck.

Driver side painted, passenger side no paint and "surface rust".
