Recommendations on a 2500 HD

I've had my 1500 for almost two years now and have loved it. Its a 2007 with 42K miles on it, purchased with 23K miles. The 5.3 is plenty of power and for commuting wasn't bad on mileage. My commute recently has been shaved down to 5 miles round trip and Ive always wanted the extra space in the back seat for passengers but didn't want to give up the bed space. Ive been looking a little bit but I would like some direction from guys that know these trucks ? Whats good ? What bad ? The 6.0 V8 good ?

The truck Im looking at is the same color as mine, 2011 Silverado 2500HD CC with the 6'6" bed. It has the 6.0 -- 14,000miles

Its something that I don't NEED, but would be nice. I do NO towing what-so-ever

Let me know

Thanks

Here is a picture. Dont know these trucks very well but the front does look a bit higher than the ones ive been seeing around

Yeah, that's a nice truck! It looks to be leveled already, so you can do some big tires right away. I've had my '12 for 10 months now and have nothing but praise for it, good on gas, lots of power-super fun to tear around with the stiff frame. Most comfortable family rig I've ever had.

I too, came from a half-ton and have no regrets. I thought my next truck would be a diesel, and I only tow light, so after a year of researching I can honestly tell you the 6.0 is the better choice for your situation, just be careful what you read on the internet, there is a lot of meatheads that will tell you there's nothing else on earth but a diesel HD, even as they go bankrupt because of it.

If your a common sense guy, and thought the 5.3 was pretty good, then these new HD's with the L96 six point ohh will blow your mind. I'm used to driving fairly powerful vehicles, and I still can't believe how much I like this truck!

woa, its "their" not there. LOL. lots of meatheads on here afraid to admit their sexuality as well  ahahahah.

OP nothing wrong with that truck, drove one for two weeks a while back for a work truck while my dodge was gettin fixed. like hemicat states, they are very pleasing to drive. lots of power ( not as much as a diesel tho  ) pretty good on gas, shift nice..all around great package for the price i think. what do you tow? you have a camper or a boat?

if i was in the market for a gas 3/4 ton, i wouldnt think twice. they are very nice trucks. although i would wait another year as well, just to see whats coming in 2014.

Need to get the pole out of your eye before you point out a splinter.

woa should be Whoa

its should be it's

His "there" is correct, not "their."

OP, nice truck. There is nothing wrong with the 6.0 and the 6 speed tranny, from what I've read and driven.

Before anyone get ill with me, my comments were meant to be funny. After reading them, maybe they aren't that funny.

Since it's a 'want' and not a need, common sense and economics don't seem to enter into the equation, so I'll offer no opinion either way. Your going to do what you want so it doesn't matter what I think.

I may have asked before... but what 1/2-ton/motor, and how did the mpg compare? I see lots of info on mpg, but rarely from the same driver.

I have a 4.8L 1500, 2010 crewcab with 4spd tranny and a 2012 6.0L 2500 Ext. Cab 6 spd tranny. If I travel empty the 1500 gets way better mileage but as soon as I add 800lbs of cargo or tow my small 1000 lb tailer the 2500 starts looking like it is getting the same or better mileage. The 1500 has 3.23 gears and the 2500 3.73 gears. It all depends on the load at the time, but, they are both a treat to drive. I can get 22+ MPG highway (70MPH) with the 1500 empty but only 18 MPG with the 2500 empty or lightly loaded. I am sure that if I changed my lead foot driving habits I could even do better, but, I do not care. I have a Lincoln welder on the back of the 2500 all the time and at 600-700 lbs don't even know its there, but, would hate to have it on my 1500 full time.

Have had my 2012 2500HD for nine months now and the good is seriously everything. Have had no problems and this thing handles my 2,000 lb camper like it it's not there. The 6.0 engine has great power and gets glowing reviews from the forums I have read.

Whats bad......nothing.

I did remove the front chin spoiler before the 4WD roads here did.

On edit:

Make sure your truck comes with the Eaton rear locker. Look for the G80 option code.

Comes in handy.....see above.

The only thing I tow is a small landscaping trailer around town. Nothing big at all

Only reason for the upgrade is because I don't have much of a commute anymore and it would be nice to have something bigger

The best mpg I ever got with my 1500 was 19 on the way from NC , and that was babying it the entire way with a ton of traffic (50-60mph traffic)

As far as rear ends, what's a better rear to look for ? 373 or 410 ?

For your use definitely the 3:73.

I would only get the 4:10 if I had a HEAVY trailer....think 5th wheel or something.

With the new 6 speed trans first gear with the 373 is lower than the old 4 speed auto with the 411.
