Recommendations on a 2500 HD

The only thing I tow is a small landscaping trailer around town. Nothing big at all

Only reason for the upgrade is because I don't have much of a commute anymore and it would be nice to have something bigger

The best mpg I ever got with my 1500 was 19 on the way from NC , and that was babying it the entire way with a ton of traffic (50-60mph traffic)

As far as rear ends, what's a better rear to look for ? 373 or 410 ?

since you are not towing heavy loads i would go with the 3.73 in my personal opinion or even a lower number.

Before anyone get ill with me, my comments were meant to be funny. After reading them, maybe they aren't that funny.

Certainly no more harsh than his!

anyhow, glad you said it, cause I was going to.

It's all just for a laugh. I don't want to hurt feelings lol.

I've come to understand you well, Chevyboy, so I know it's just harmless debate-I actually enjoy it!

And Mattymax, the 3.73's are the way to go if you are not towing heavy, just to stay legal. They are very capable, but under-rated by GM to try to push diesel sales. It's funny how they rate the half-ton to tow more than the 2500 w/3.73's, but w/4.10's it can tow exactly the same as the diesel at the bumper. And take a guess which rear-end dealers only order in for their lots.

If you do no towing whatsoever, why not stick with a nice 1500. Those 6.2 1/2 ton trucks are supposed to be awesome.

I mean really going to a 2500hd your gonna have a stiffer ride, lower gas mileage,etc...

But!! I think even if i didn tow/haul what i do i would still have a 2500 because its just nice to have a strong,tough,powerful,truck..

Well that's the thing, I would love to stay with the 1500 but you can't get the cc with a nice size bed. I do like the 6.2 but they are super rare in the used market

For your use definitely the 3:73.

I would only get the 4:10 if I had a HEAVY trailer....think 5th wheel or something.

With the new 6 speed trans first gear with the 373 is lower than the old 4 speed auto with the 411.

I agree, I have a 2012 with the 6.0L and 6spd, 3.73s...I had roughly 10k pounds behind it a month or so after I bought it, and it didn't do half bad (its definitely not my old truck, but hey; apples to oranges). The only place it struggled were the little narrow back roads where I couldn't build up a head of steam, once on the highway, it dropped in 6th cruised right along. It definitely wasn't worth running 4.10s for the 5% of the time they would be needed.

The only thing I would think you would miss would be the ride of the 1500...I've owned a 2500 for the last 20 years, so I don't notice it.
