Which One?

In October, I purchased a '89 GMC Jimmy SLE that cosmetically is in excellent shape.  I plan to lift it, drop in a crate motor, sound system and add some exterior mods to make it my ultimate weekend 4X4.  All in all I'm looking at putting almost $4K in it.

However, yesterday I also purchased a '88 Toyota FJ62 Landcruiser.  Like the Jimmy, I bought it off our lot for a steal.  My original intent was to sell the 'Cruiser to get the money I need to fix the Jimmy.  But the 'Cruiser also needs about $4K to make it a mean 4X4, which I could probably get if I sold the Jimmy.

My best friend has one of these and has really tricked it out to a tough looking beast and he and some of the guys I work with are trying to talk me into fixing up the 'Cruiser instead.  But the old fullsize Jimmys & Blazers are a personal favorite.  So which one would you rather have as a project for your ultimate 4X4?  I have a week or so till I get the title to the 'Cruiser and then will likely sell one of them.  Thanks for your opinion!! :thumb:  :smash:

an identical, but not mine, '88 FJ62 'Cruiser -

IMO, I'd stick with  the Jimmy.

1.The Jimmy\Blazer is my favorite too. :smash:

2. I don't care for 4-door  SUVs that much.

3. The  shorter wheelbase on the Jimmy would be an advantage for your more hardcore 'wheeling.

The  only FJ40s I like are the ones that were made back in '79 or so.

I'd keep the Jimmy.  They are one of my favorites and I am hoping to be able to get ahold of one someday to make into a off-roading truck.

Gotta love the Jimmy.  The last department I was involved with had an 87 that was all white like that + blue decals and the lightbar.  It was a nice ride...formerly belonged to the FD for their use.  I would've loved to have scooped it up when the department rolled it over for a new Rado, but I didn't have the cash...it only had 235's under it though...definitely needed new wheels/tires.

Firetiger, that's a wee bit graphic there...ha

JIMMY !!!!!!!!!!

Of course the old Blazers and Jimmys are my favorite too.  And I'll always pick American over Foreign.

C'mon digs, you're asking on a GM board whether or not to make a super sweet lifted GM or toyota, whaddya think we're going to say....

I say go with the Jimmy

In all honest, no GM-biased here, I think it's the better choice.

Thanks guys!!

As much as I've wanted to fix up an old Jimmy/Blazer, I was starting to succumb to the peer presure.  For me the biggest reasons for the Jimmy are the removable hardtop come summertime, the V8 over the I6, we already have a 4 door 4X4 with the 'Burb, and the aforementioned cheap parts and cheap aftermarket doo-dads.  The one perk to the 'Yota is customized 'Cruisers sell for gobs of money.

I knew asking on a GM site would set me straight, but I want to hear more opinions if you have one -  :smash:

I don't know wether you like SFA's or not, but I do, so I would say that is another plus to the jimmy. Also which one gets you more excited when looking at them? Definately the Jimmy. I owned a bronco for a year and a half, and by the time I got through with it, it was a mean looking ride, and all I did was make a light bar(made myself) and had 32" tires with stock suspension. I had so many comments about how sweet it looked that I was almost scared to get her dirty, but everytime a chance came, she was filthy :smash:

Over all, if gas mileage is out of the question, always get a fullsize!!
