2001 Silverado front axle nut torque?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I recently replaced my Driver side front axle and I remember torquing the axle nut to 150 ft/lb. As my wrench stopped there.

I found on the internet a PDF of different vehicles that says that the axle nut should be torqued to 155 ft/lb.

I also found on a forum or two people saying 177 ft/lb.

I am wondering where to find the correct torque or if anyone knows for sure. I have aquired a 250 ft/lb wrench since and I was also reading not to re-tourque the nut to loosen it first. I am not planning on doing that as the nut is the crimped oblong type, so that it doesnt loosen, So I have no plans on backing the nut off. Maybe tightening a little more. Thats it.

Any help appreciated. thanks.

You should be good. Usually the specified torque comes with in the directions for replacement when you buy a new axle. I take it yours did not?
