Thanks for your time. Have two questions.Took my truck to the GM dealer here in Calgary for an auto transmission service, noticed that the Transmission filter was not changed but what was done was a transmission fluid flush for $238.00. Transmission fluid and a Kit part number K6600 are on my invoice. Is this GM's standard process for tranny service? Also did a Oil service with DEXOS1 , have a next service sticker recommending next oil change after 12000 kms, present kilometers on my sierra is 123436 kms , with DEXOS1, is oil change recommended after 12000 kilometers ? I always change engine oil after 5000 kilometers.

Wait, they charged you for the kit but didn't install the filter? They should have done that. Not sure what "kit" means.

For the engine yeah gm and most auto makers go past the 5000 traditional oil change. I don't but I do my own. On my car I use dino oil and go every 5k, on my sierra I go every 10k with syn. You have an oil life monitor on that truck this is an accurate way of measuring oil life its widely talked about on here and other sites. Bobistheoilguy site has good info on this.

I have seen.studies posted on this site where they showed if proper back flushes are done regularly, a filters might never be needed. That said, Ill he putting a New filter in my Tahoe I bought used before I do a flush.

Dexos is just another license fee for GM to collect. Hopefully RP and company won't pay the stupid license fee to try to win over uninformed consumers which would then raise the prices. I know they didn't with the latest ILSAC standard which was gear for gas mileage rather than engine protection.

For the oil change 12000 kilometers will be just fine. No need to change early unless you want too.

As for the transmission. There is a ton of opinions on that one, I for one feel if there is is some mileage on the transmission like yours then a filter change is warranted. It also allows you to clean off the magnet that is inside the pan that a fluid exchange will not do.

mike66,

Have you had a chance to contact customer assistance or perhaps another dealer for more information. They may be able to assist you further in providing a second opinion. Feel free to contact me as well and I can look into this for you on my end. Thank you.

I have a hard time getting around the fact they charged you for a kit but did not change the filter
