Hey everyone! I havnt been on here in a long while so let me recap what stupid decisions i have made...I sold my 04 1500 to get a 08 ford f250 king ranch. It is definately a nice truck but not a huge fan of it. I really want to get back into a gmc or chevy 1500 silverado or tahoe. I'm looking for an 08 or newer with under 60,000 miles and trying to stay around $30,000. Is there anything I should look for when i look at trucks? Are there years to avoid or anything that will be easy to find just from a quick drive of the vehicle?

I would stay 09 or newer to get the 6 speed tranny. I have an 08 with the 4 speed, and I love my truck, but my dad bought a 2013 with the 6 speed and it is awfully nice to drive.

Yeah, I would search 2009 GM trucks too, more options this year. 6-spd auto, rear b/up camera, & Ipod/ port on radio head unit, etc.

Try searching on Autotrader.com Here you can search by color, mileage, price range, distance, etc.

Good Luck....

for 30k why not look at new. I got brand new 2011 1500z71 extended cab all star package with convenince/ bucket seats for just over 29k plus tax and tag. I waited until the 2012 were on the lot and I got a good deal.

like others have said go for the 6 speed.. you might even be able to find a used 6.2 depending on where you are located

I would also advise getting the 3:42 gears with the 6-speed. It's RPO code GU6 in the glove box. The only other option is 3:08 (RPO code GU4) and the general consensus seems to be that 3:08's return the same MPG (or worse) compared to the 3:42's...and the 3:42's will give you more power and better acceleration.

Other advice...the 6.2 is an amazing engine...and MPG isn't that bad, considering it's got over 400 HP....but the 5.3 is still great, especially with the 6-speed behind it.

+1 on the 6.2L. Also gives you the option of 3.73 gears which are great for oversized tires and/or towing. Either way, welcome back to the bowtie brigade.
