Issues with the my wiper blades 03 Silverado

I have a 2003 Silverado 1500HD I bought a month ago. I have been having issues with the windshield wipers. This does not happen all the time just every once in a while.

When I turn the wiper blades on sometimes they kind of catch on the glass and jump a bit, they don’t flow smoothly across the windshield. I usually happens on the way up, but not on the way down, and you can see lines of water where the blades bounced. It only happens when the blades are on the intermittent settings, and not when it is on the top 2 faster settings. My wiper blades are brand new and are top of the line Bosch blades, the same ones that I have on my other vehicles and have for years with no problems.

When I bought the truck at the end of December it was having this issue, but when it happened the windshield was icy and I thought that may have been the problem, because it went away and it did not happen the next time I drove it.

Well we have not had any snow or rain for about a month, and the other day I was driving home from work and it was raining pretty good. Turned my wipers on and they were working for the first mile or so, then I started to have that problem. I turned them on and off again several times to see if they would start working right again but they would not, so I gave up and just drove home, then all of the sudden they started working again.

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

I have a 90 day warranty from the dealership that covers this, but Im trying to get some ideas of what it might be before I take it in, because I guarantee you the dealership will not be able replicate the problem, it will probably work just fine for them.

Are they the bosch icon blades? The ones that are curved when you pull them off the windshield?

Yes they are

Junk them!!! I had them on my Sierra...they suck. I was having the exact same problem you are...They ice up faster then any wipers I have ever had...I took them off and put winter blades on and haven't had a problem since. I think it's something about the way the windshield is shaped that makes them suck on it.

My barber always told me to stay away from Bosch products and I am starting to realize he was right.

Weird I have never had issues before with those blades. I had them on my Tahoe (which has the same windshield) and I have them on my Subaru. I have RainX blades on my SSS, i guess I could take those off and put them on the truck Im having issues with and see if I still have the issues.

My Bosch blades seem to work great. Maybe the springs that hold your arm down are worn out? Mine are quiet and the only issue I have is the one on the pass side skips right along the edge, since the glass is curved more and the wipers are over a year old.

I have that issue with my Bosch Icons. The Rain-X sucked. I lost one on the freeway

Try taking them off and put some rubbing alcohol on a paper towl and run it up and down the rubber blade it self a few times....see if that helps...I do that with my commuter car alot before we get bad weather...

I have the Icons and they do the same thing when i havent cleaned the windshield in awhile. The trick is to keep the windshield very clean, you need to clean it about once or twice a week. I use stoners and it works very well, the icons don't take well to dirt or grime being on the windshield. Also wipe down the blades with some Stoners on a rag everytime you clean the windows.

Try using the Rain-X fluid, it keeps the streaking down, and if you use it for a while any beads the wipers leave will just run off.

This also!....I dont know why more people dont use rain-x I love that stuff...I buy it in bulk online...leave a bottle in every vehicle I have... People say to me....does that sh*t really work? They put it on their vehicle....most the time they are a believer for life.

I clean the windshields of our vehicles with Bon Ami a few times a year. Nothing I've found works better for removing stubborn deposits that cause streaking, chattering wipers, etc.

So I swapped the blades from my other truck (Rain-X) and I ran the wipers for a while and I did not have the problem, then I put the bosh ones back and and I still did not have the problem, they were working great.

It does not make any sense this issues does not happen all the time, it is very random.

Im going to clean the windshield really good and put some Adams glass sealant on it, and maybe that will stop the issue.

This pertains more to 400 series trucks, but the wiper motor control module may be getting ready to check out. Mine exhibited the same intermittent behavior for about 6 months before just stopping...while driving a winding, unlit road at night. Bad mojo, baby.

I might just take it to the dealership and tell them to fix it because it is still under there warranty. It only happens intermittently so it is hard for the dealership to replicate.
