i read the thread about dexos1 oil ,we have a '13 yukon and the army jumped all over the dexos thing and i read the thread about it before and said "guys wait a minute ,i think we can put regular 5w30 in this and kick it out the door ,",turns out i was right after reading the thread again,

 

truck is still waiting for dexos to arrive ,,,...tying up my hoist .....sigh

 

am i right how i read that thread ?....money grab is right ,idk

Why are you waiting on a dexos1 oil? There are plenty of them out there now?

Govt work. They get their oil from a supplier. They have a contract with that supplier and can't break it by buying dexos oil elsewhere

Dexos is a semi-synthetic that GM designed standards for. Probably due to all the oil-operated components like AFM, VVT and so on. Most synthetics meet the standard but you can also buy semi-synthetic from the dealer too that is labeled as Dexos brand I think.

Dexos 1 spec was developed to be used world wide by GM. This was to eliminate all the all the various specs for both regular and sythetic fills in different models with gas engines. This wasn't about GM trying to make money selling oil.

thx,so the oil showed up late yestarday ,,the big jug had dexos on the label,the 1 liter bottle did not ,,,,,,,sigh ,,,,dumb parts guy,,,out the door it went !!!!! lol
