Bilstein 5100 mounting orientation and removing boots

I just ordered my 5100's and was wondering about mounting orientation.

 

This might be a stupid question but do the 5100's mount with the boot up or down? Looking at pictures they are mounted either way. If they mount boot down, is there anything negative about removing the boot?

 

The shocks came with the solid blue boots and not the acordian style black ones.

It seems like upside down they would hold in dirt.

just like the pic. Boot on top. It protects the shock internals from some debris

Boot up. The boots keep gravel from nicking the shock.
