Fault Code Definition
The Bank 2 Catalytic Converter's
emissions reducing efficiency has fallen below the minimum allowable
threshold. This efficiency is tracked by a monitoring Oxygen Sensor that
is mounted near the outlet of the Catalytic Converter.

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light will illuminate
  • In many cases, no abnormal symptoms may be noticed
  • In some cases, there may be a noticeable lack of engine power

Common Problems That Trigger the P0430 Code

  • Defective Catalytic Converter
  • Internal engine damage resulting in high oil consumption and/or a leaking Head Gasket has damaged the Catalytic Converter

Common Misdiagnoses

  • Oxygen Sensor(s) are replaced when the real problem is a damaged Catalyst
  • Catalyst is replaced when the real problem is internal engine damage, which is producing elevated emissions levels
  • Catalyst is replaced when a misfiring engine is the real problem

Copied dyagnosis and pasted here... Good Luck scooby

so in other words; I need to make an Appointment at Alexander Chevy-Buick-GMC, so they can hook it up to their Tech 2?

yes to diagnose the code and present you with an estimate for repair ,,,,you then say yes and truck is fixed ,,,

if not you take it back and its on the dealer to fix it right without you paying twice,,,

most of govtech4 answers are get it scan take it to the dealer . For the most part he is right just most of us hate taking vehicles that are not under warranty to the dealer. So we come here hoping for answers .

Yes, mainly because they like to empty your pockets quickly.

But OPs truck probably still has emission warranty in place. Usually 5 years or 50k 8yr /80kmiles, if so his cats are covered. OP, check with GM about warranty coverage by contacting them with your VIN

I think emmisions is 8 year 80K miles. I don't know if there is a small deductible or not after the first three years.

Cats and ECMs should be covered for 8 years or 80,000 unless you live in California. Warranty's in California are a little longer. Also there are exceptions on Cat warranty's some for longer than 100,000.

It has varied over the years and why I stated to check with GM by using the VIN. I just googled and found the Fed minimum of 5/50.

Edit to add:

Yep 8/80 was finally able to get into my GM data account

yup, we still have the Powertrain Warranty, the Rust Warranty, the Select Emission Parts Warranty, and a new Warranty for 10 years or 120,000 Miles due to SB-11273 (The TPS Recall)

i come here hoping to help people spend money wisely after figuring how much experience they have and some have little ,,i know some people are fearless but guessing digs into diagnoses charges ,,thats all i want people to understand , i know im repetitive but every code has 5 possibilites as to the cause,,i would feel like a douche if i said to change "this" and it didnt work ,,so i dont

i like to copy and paste schmetics and code charts even if they dont come out right in a post ...

i would also copy and paste "description and operation "of anything anytime for anyone all day long understanding the system is half the battle imo ,,,,

anywho,,,later

Yeah, but throwing 3 different parts on the truck to fix the problem is mostly still cheaper than take it to the dealer once.

And most of the problems have the same cause. So why not consider the experience of other users?

I don't mean to be offensive. I appreciate your answers too.

so long

I'm actually not a dummy when it comes to Diagnosis (I have degrees in Automotive technology and Collision repair, a bookshelf full of Factory Service manuals, and the Tools and DIY Diagnostic Equipment to prove it) I Just posted in here to see if anyone else has had this problem, and what they did to fix it. Here's the Freeze Frame Data from my Scan Tool if it helps any:
