I have a 2011 GMC Sierra 5.3 AFM deleted & computer tuned motor sitting at 279,000 miles. Bought truck 5 years ago at 160k miles. At the time, it still had AFM. I replaced PVC & some smaller items. Once AFM got deleted, she’s ran like a scalded dog since.

I change oil every 3-5k miles & get fluid checked. Recently changing oil, condensation and a sweet smell has appeared on inside of oil the oil cap.

Hope I can make It to 300k

Maybe if you baby it, probably a blown head gasket.  Have you checked the plugs yet?

08 1500 4x4 CC 5.3 about to roll over 300K by Labor Day. All majors original (tranny, transfer, engine). Runs better now at 293K than it did when I got it at 93K.

Turned off AFM, replaced original valve cover with improved PCV design - stopped all excessive oil loss, had computer tuned at speed shop, oil change every 5K - castrol, change transmission fluid at 50K intervals, change all fluids at 100K interval, change plugs and wires when needed or 100K, driving lots of interstate and rough oilfield roads. Will continue to drive as long it will stay dependable and paid for.

Old-school mechanic that did PCM tune said "these trucks will run fine once you get the Govt out of the engine".

HateCarpetGuy, I see you turned off AFM.  I'm guessing you bought an AFM disabler to do that.  If so, was it the "Range" brand?  I'm considering buying one for my 2011 GMC, 5.3, 163k miles.  I'm considering it because sometimes I hear a "ticking" sound at startup after the truck has set up overnight or for a few days; but goes away after a couple of miles.  But I'm not sure if its a good idea with 163k miles.

250,000 miles on my 2010 Avalanche.  I'm scared and am wondering it it's too late for an AFM disabler to do any good!

vandedm, did you ever put the disabler on your AFM?  I'm considering that now on my 2011.  Sometimes at startup, I'm hearing a "ticking" sound, but goes away after a couple miles..

Jkspell14, I'm thinking about the Range AFM disabler on my 2011 GMC, 163k miles.  I assume you used a disabler on yours too?  Or did you go in to the motor and change all that?  If you used a disabler, what brand did you get?  I'm hearing a "ticking" sound at startup sometimes after the truck has set overnight or for a few days.  But it goes away after driving a couple miles.

My 2018 L83 is currently at 260k miles. No delete, no disable, I just change the oil every 5k miles with Valvoline 0w20. She just keeps on going, no ticks, knocks, or other scary noises.
