Wheel and tire help

Hey guys, newbie here with a question for those interested. I have searched on here for roughly 4 hours and cannot find a specific answer to my question/problem. I am looking at putting bigger wheels and tires on my truck 08 silverado 1500 Z71. Stockers are 265/70/17 and I really want to put 22 wheels and tires on. The wheels I'm looking at are 22x10 so could I safely put 285/45/22 tires on without having rubbing issues. I have no lift and plan on keeping that way mainly cause I tow my boat a little bit and don't want the truck to look funny when hooked up (sag). Also, to go along with pulling my boat, can 22's handle the load with such a short sidewall. I don't do any offloading (not on purpose anyway) so it is mainly a street truck and looking for tire size info and potential problems pulling my boat. I would settle with 20's but would much rather have 22. Thanks in advance for your help!

The answer is yes. 285/45R22 is the size that comes when a truck is ordered with 22" wheels

Stock wheels are also 22x9. The ones you are looking at see 22x10. Might want to consider a 305/40/22.

Hey guys thanks for the info. So what would be the difference between a 285 and 305. Is it going to be just a touch wider? Also, since I am considering a 22/10, should I stick with the +31 offset or go with something with a little less offset. I'm not completely knowledgable on this subject so any input would be greatly appreciated. I would like to have the wheel and tire tucked as much as possible without rubbing, which is my main concern and the truck is going to be left stock. Thanks again guys!!

Yes it is a little wider. About 12" compared to 11" with the 285

Mike, I'm running 305/40 ZR22's, not sure of my offset. Probably close to stock as my wheels and tires don't stick out past my fenders. Good luck. Pic of my wheels as compared to the fenders...I would also consider 20's if your going with a more off road style tire. The combo I have is a pretty short sidewall, and more side wall may look better with an off road style tire.

Hey thanks for the pic. Pics definitely help when trying to figuring this all out. I'm not necessarily going with a very aggressive tire, just something I can run in the winter as well that'll give me some more traction. I've been eyeing the cooper zeon ltz as they look to be the best of both worlds. If I keep the offset as close to factory as possible, will a 10 inch wide rim and the 305s be good to go as far as rubbing is concerned? Again, I have no lift. Sorry if I seem to keep asking the same questions here but just wanna make sure everything is in order before I make my purchase. Don't want any surprises spending this kind of coin. Thanks again!!

I've never had a rub, so you should be fine. Don't forget though, wide tires and snow don't get along very well. I swap out to factory 18's in the winter(Iowa) so I'm not floating on top of the snow. I do like the tires you're looking at. I just tried to call Callaway for the offset but my contact is at lunch(Connecticut). Gotta hit the sack but I'll check in tomorrow to see where you ended up. Thanks again. I just checked bzo's website and the wheels come in +0 +15 +35. So would any of these work well with my truck and 22x10 rims. I really don't want them sticking out too far past the fender but I can handle a little bit. Anybody that may have an answer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

305/40/22x10 with +35 offset = 6.9" backspace

305/40/22x10 with +15 offset = 6.1" backspace

305/40/22x10 with +0 offset = 5.5" backspace

Ok so I found an offset calculator while searching on here which allows you to compare tires, wheels, and different offsets. I put the tire size, rim dimension, and two different offsets into the calculator. Using a 22x10 inch rim and +15 offset, it leaves me with 6.1 backspace and says that's fine. I put in the 0 offset and it gives me 5.5 backspace but says wheel will stick out 0.6 from fender. So question is, will either of these work or should I go with the 0 offset because it gives me stock back spacing (5.5 I think). I believe I have this all figured out but just need a little push here to make my decision solid. Thanks!!

Remember that even though you would get back to stock backspace, the wheel and tire combo that you have chosen is wider than a stock setup.

Got it finally.....I think. If I got with +15 offset that'll leave me with suspension distance the same, wheel well fill the same but says tire will stck out 1.6 inches further than stock. That shouldn't be too much past the fender cause it looks like my stock tires are tucked in a tad. The site I'm looking at buying my wheels and tires from recommend a low offset and I believe their low means +0 to +20 so I'm assuming that's what they r going with. About to pull the trigger but if anybody wants to chime in that'd be very beneficial to my health. Thanks.

Hey guys, well things have changed a bit from my earlier posts. Thanks to the wife, she insisted that she wants my truck to look like the duck dynasty trucks. Soooo I showed her a few picks and told her I'd have to do a pretty decent sized lift to accomplish that look. With that being said, I decided to purchase the RC 2" level kit and bought some 22's with 305/45/22 dyna pro a/t. I know its not going to look even close to their trucks (smaller lift/level and bigger rims) but the truck I showed her with the exact setup was very sharp. The level kit is on the way and wheels and tires should be here in a wk or so. Ill post pics once I get er dun to see what you all think. Hoping there isn't a ton (if any) trimming to do but we will see. Thanks for all the great info and I'm loving the site already.
