Rear pinion seal leak

Dollars to doughnuts the pinion angle is incorrect from the factory, mine was on Sara (2001 Z28).

I had an adjustable BMR torque arm installed, along with other suspension upgrades (on Sara), the installer used an "angle finder" to measure the pinion angle (drive shaft into pumpkin) before removing the stock stamped unadjustable torque arm. After installing the adjustable torque arm, he loosened a nut on the unit which allowed the angle to be set by the pumpkin rotating either forward or backward, using the same angle finder to set it at the appropriate angle. Stock it was set to +2 degrees (incorrect from factory), reset to 0 degrees (acceptable 0 to -2 degrees).

 

CERTAINLY YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS PROCEEDURE, don't you?, I mean I read your posts to other people, and you seem to have some technical knowledge.

Ah so you mean the angle of the entire rear axle (rotational). I was thinking you were talking about the angle of the pinion specifically, which is what Rob may have been wondering as well.

i was thinking a diff with leaf springs ,,,,kinda hard to adjust the angle with out changing the perch...

Digging up this old thread - because I replaced two seals on my 99 - within a few thousand miles of each other - and the last and third one I replaced the pinion flange as well as they tend to score and get worn. Now, again the thing is leaking after winter sitting idle for a few months - of which it leaked while sitting there! About a 5 inch stain on my new driveway. I am going to check the vent plug per advice, perhaps that may take care of the problem, but I am thinking something else is wrong. The 99 has 175k on it.
