Last time I checked, the 275's were around $220 each, and the 285's were around $300 each. $200-$250 cheaper for a set of four seems like a big difference to me, when the sizes are very similar.

Another reason the 275's had much more appeal to me!

Cheaper? By how much?

Mine were definitely cheaper than 220. I think 190 a tire plus mount balance etc

I have had 3 sets of the 275/70's and 1 set of 285's on my 3 900 series GMs. There is no reason to pay the extra money for the 285's.

Well $190, plus mounting and balancing would probably get you close to $220. The price I was quoted (around $220, can't remember exactly) included mounting and balancing.....but tax wasn't included. Regardless, why are the 285's so much higher?

I've got Cooper ST Maxx in 275 70 and next to a Falken Wildpeak 285 it was as wide (probably because of the 3 ply and sidewall biters) and a complete inch taller.

I really like the Maxx but they are heavy! I have just over 20K on them and have lost about 6-7mm in tread depth. On the factory wheels I've found that 45 front and 43 rear ride best with equal tread wear accross the tire.
