Cali Gas pump clicking off??

Recommended Posts

I have a 2011 Sierra Denali and can't get a full tank pumped at most, if not all stations, without the pump clicking off 10-20 times. Anyone else having this issue? Fixes?

Dealer said they are getting some complaints and want to replace vent hose?.

My 04 does this depending on the station. Part of the blame is the vent the other is poorly maintained pumps and the damn vapor recovery system

Once the pump "clicks" off, I hold up the rubber boot on the pump, and raise the nozzle (of the pump) slightly up out of the gas tank, I then can slowly fill the gas tank to capacity.

I go through it every couple days.

You can thank EPA and CARB for that. Those nozzles cost gas stations 15k a piece, and we wonder why gas is so pricey out here...

Yes they do. I worked at a newly opened gas station before I was in the military. I think Abe said he had to pay 13k per nozzle. He had 4. The repairs and certification was very expensive as well

What I've been doing when that happens is I put the nozzle in on its side and rest the handle on the gas tank door. Been doing it for over a year and always works. Just make sure you get the nozzle in the hole!

And hold on to your hats, the wonderful democratic leaders of our state (California), decided to raise the state gas tax 3.5 cents a gallon (starting July 1st) because "with all the new fuel efficient vehicles (i.e. the roller skate looking hybrids), Californians are using less gas now, "and we are loosing to much revenue"".

Damned if you do, and damned if you don't!!!

Don't know if that'll work out there. The pumps I've used when out in CA you have to push down on to make a "seal" before it will work. Annoying as hell that they can't be like gas pumps everywhere else in the country. Back in NH there was one station that I couldn't fill up at cause it would constantly click off but that is all I remember.

The nozzles here in CA are built to click off, this is to avoid having gas vapors in the air. You can tell the air is cleaner in CA right????

Here in BC we are aircare happy too, I really hope they don't go this route. How would you fill a plastic jerry can?

Any links?, couldnt find it

Im sorry, I thought you said a 2001 sierra. I couldnt find any videos either but your truck does have one...I found the part. There has to be somewhere online that shows you where it is mounted. The Technical term for the part is a Vapor cannister. I had this happen on my 04 silverado and found out the part was cheap. The link below shows the purge vent also, but I think you may be able to get just the cannister. I may be wrong though. Im just trying to help based off of my past experience with this. Ask a real mechanic what they think first lol.
