2 problems with my 03

Recommended Posts

1. Switched filters on me, now I gotta try to remember PF-44

2. The blue hi-beam indicator is very bright and annoying.

If these are my only 2 complaints owning this truck I think will be a happy boy !

I'm curious, why do you recommend it asepgrad98?  I've been using the PF-44, but was wondering why GM switched in the first place.

My only guess is parts consolidation across the lines - thought I read somewhere that the Vette uses the PF-44 too.

I second the thought on the hi-beam light.  Man that sucker is bright.

My two problems on my new 2003 were the 4WD module was defective (not the switch---for now). Replaced-fixed.  Second problem is in the mirrors.  They are FLOPPY.  A strong head wind will flop them to the window glass.

The dealer has replaced both mirrors---the driver's side twice and passenger side once and the new passenger's side mirror is now floppy.  I can't help but think that there has got to be some sort of tension adjustment.

I have heard a couple of folks say they cut and added some window tint over the high beam indicator.  I have not done this, but mine is bright, too.  It would be nice to find a bulb of less intensity.

btw-did you get the recall on the possible battery drain on certain 2003 VINs?

Doesn't apply to mine---no Quadrasteer here.

Lrymal,  I thought there might be a tension adjustment on mine also, which were replaced for same reason.  Dealer told me there was none.  My new ones are much tighter, and so far haven't gotten looser.

Since they had to tear into the door panels to replace the electronics, cabling, I now have a small rattle, but I will fix that when it gets warm enough to do it.

I had also thought of shimming them w/ some thin, hard rubber.  Not the most elegant fix, but I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as it wasn't made too tight, and it didn't show, especially if they've been replaced multiple times and still get lose.

Just a thought.     Keep us posted, if you would.

P.S. - Agree w/ the hi-beam indicator too bright and turn signals, etc too loud.  I can live w/ the high-beam indicator as I don't ever get very far w/ hi's on anyways, but if anybody had a fix for the loud turn signal, I'd be very happy.

Not just Quadrasteer trucks. Here is the info, just in case you may need the software update:

Thanks to MattH for the info:

#02066 -- Battery Drain

involved vehicles are certain:

2003 Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban; 2003 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL; 2003 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade EXT, Escalade ESV

Equipped with Quadrasteer (NYS), Autoride (Z55), or Vehicle Stability Enhancement/StabiliTrak (JL4)

December, 2002

Dear General Motors Customer:

We want your experience owning your 2003 model year Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban; 2003 model year GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL; and 2003 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade EXT, and Escalade ESV vehicles equipped with Quadrasteer, Autoride, or Vehicle Stability Enhancement/StabiliTrack to be better than any other you've had ... which is why we're writing.

We have learned that your 2003 model year Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban; 2003 model year GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL; and 2003 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade EXT, and Escalade ESV vehicle may have the potential of exhibiting a battery drain condition. An anomaly in the operation of the steering wheel position sensor may keep the Body Control Module (BCM) from shutting down when the key is in the OFF position. The resultant 3.5 amp draw/load on the battery could possible discharge the battery to the point where the battery will not have sufficient amperage to start the vehicle.

What We Have Done

We've sent a new BCM calibration to your dealer so that your vehicle can be reprogrammed to ensure that the BCM shuts down when you turn the vehicle off. This service will be performed for you at no charge.

What You Should Do

We recommend that you contact your dealer to arrange a service date. If you have experienced this condition in the past and your battery was recharged or replaced, your vehicle will still need to be reprogrammed.

here are the VIN breakpoints to determine if your vehicle is possibly involved (contact your dealer or the customer assistance certain to determine for sure):

By the topic name I thought you were going to say

1. The ugly front end

2. the rice burner tail lights

If the high beam indicator light is that bright put a piece of tape over it  :jester:

Heh...  I didn't pay attention to the front cosmetics or tail lights when I bought this truck.  It rode and handled so fine that these weren't even an issue.

Don't see any rice-burner tail lights on this truck so that statement confuses me.  They aren't clear plastic at all and admittedly, have a cool style on them.  The front end---that Avalanche look-alke style...  Is that what has you guys all worked up?  Sheeeeesh, could be worse, it could look like a Ford or Dodge.   :jester:

the tail lights are cool.  I however do like the amber turn signals/flashers.  I think its a good safety item (can see much better).  The front end i am still 50/50 on.  I like the HDs but the 2wd trucks are still kinda ugly.
