Thanks for the info!

I thought the oil capacity was interesting. 6 qts for the V-6 and 8 qts for the V-8's! Thats Duramax oil capacity requirements!

EcoTec3 4.3L

EcoTec3 5.3L

EcoTec3 6.2L

Engine oil (qt / L):

6 / 5.6

(Dexos 5W30)

8 / 7.5 (Dexos 0W20)

8 / 7.5 (Dexos 0W20)

Hardly. Most diesels hold like 12-16 quarts.

You are thinking of ford or Cummings. Duramax diesels have only required 10 qts for an oil change for years.

I am used to gas V8 motors requiring 5qts. More oil is better for engine cooling, oil life, etc. this is a big Change from gmt900 requirements.

Chevy gas V8s have been six quarts for at least all of the 800 series and 900s. Surprising about the Durmax using so little oil compared to Ford and the Cummins.

Anyone know what reason is behind these new V8's needing 2 more quarts of oil? I'm curious.

It's a conspiracy to make us more dependant on fossil fuels! More truck sales + increased oil capacity = more profits in both industries.

On a serious note, it might be for increased cooling?

I'll shoot off an email and ask about the reasoning for the increase in oil capacity for you guys on Monday.

My guess is more reliable operation of the oil pressure run stuff like VVT and AFM.

Any way you look at it it's a good idea imo. The only downside is having to buy more oil.
