Towing in 4x4

Is towing a 3500lb camper in the summer in 4x4 high hard on the truck? Towed for about 3 hours, think transmission temp gauge got up to 90'c. It's a 2009 silverado 1500 5.3L.

Why would you tow in 4x4 in the summer? It will be hard on components and probably make the trans run hotter than normal.

Sounds like it was an accident... Sounds like he didn't know it was in 4x4.

Made the mistake of letting my girlfriend take my truck to a music festival, it rained a bunch and the ground was soaked, she had to use 4x4 to get out, then forgot to take it out and drove home

If it didn't smell bad and everything's working I wouldn't sweat it personally. All 4WD does is engage the front axle, either way the tires still had to move.

without some slippage at the wheels, it may bind things up a bit, and stress some driveline areas.....not likely to cause serious damage unless it's done all the time, and after a period of time......IMO

If it stressed anything you'd already know. I think after a 3 hr drive if something were stressed it would show some signs

Well 90C is about 195F which is not terribly hot, so your trans is probably fine. Smell and look at your trans fluid. Most of the driving was probably straight line and the only binding was making sharp turns. If you haven't found anything making an unusual noise yet I wouldn't worry about any drive line damage. If you're concerned about trans fluid break down from getting hotter than normal, change your trans fluid.
