Frame and Under carriage rust

Not saying this in a way that this is OK for GM or anything like that. But have transported NEW F150's & Rams as well as GM stuff & you will see one in a bunch with the same issue. All were new & when they are up in the air on the trailer, you can see the parts affected. Am assuming it comes back to how or who is prepping the frames differentials etc from the get go. By that I mean, new source, new employees etc.

True. I have a feeing this was / is a supplier issue, meaning the preparation prior to the wax dip wasn't done properly.

Am also trying to decode my VIN to determine date of manufacture and decipher if it was an East Coast vehicle before coming my way. There are two areas in the VIN that don't add up for me. Last digits are 206340, built in Fort Wayne, IN.

A quick update regarding the truck frame. I got a call from the Service Manager saying they can't perform the repair for approximately one month since this recent TSB requires different primer and topcoat. They have ordered the materials, but it will take 2-4 weeks to receive the primer & paint so they returned my truck, said to drive it 'as-is'.

Meaning that the images you saw earlier are gonna rust further in that time.

Though I have to give everyone involved a great deal of credit, I am emailing further up the food chain at
GM. In a nutshell, this truck should be bought back. The excessive corrosion on areas beyond the frame tell me this is a vehicle that will see notable future issues due to what's shown in those pics.

Zax, That is good news! At least they are not telling you" Rust is caused by the environment and there is nothing you can do about it." Some guys have gotten that answer before.

I am betting they will be using rust bullet. There is a TSB that calls for rust bullet but it was only for the 25-3500 trucks. Take a look:

This is good news for me because I was planning on using Chassis Saver paint and it is very similar to rust bullet but only requires 1 component. The process in the service bulletin is bascially how I intend to fix my truck. Although now that Zaxxon's dealer is fixing his problem, I might have to bring mine in to see if they will fix it. Hmmm, I only have 1 month left to be covered under the bumper to bumper warranty, I would have to bring it in right away if I am going to try it.

I am glad to see other guys being aggressive with their problem trucks and not letting up on GM.

My 2011 , after a year and one winter storm ( I had a winter beater) looked every bit as awful as the gallery pics.

GM wanted to brush on a coating, and maintain that up to the end of the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty. That was their fix a year ago.Their was no way they could prove to myself or the service advisors I was dealing with that every nook and cranny would be protected, I wasn't happy and dumped the truck. I held onto all the correspondence, just in case this thing goes class-action.

I looked at Fords and Dodges. Same crap.

2014 "All New" GM truck? Same rails.

Probably looking at an oil spray if I did buy a new truck.
