PCV Catch Can Question?

The pinch clamps I used came from an assortment kit that I got from Autozone.

The thing that really concerned me about what you said before was that if you pinched your fuel hose, the noise went away. Mine does not do that at all. I have poked, prodded and pinched all over the hose after I installed mine and I hear no difference in noise. The only reason I can think of is that you have a 6.2L and I have a 4.8L. Your engine may pressurize the crankcase gas more than mine does. I also opened my can after 150 miles and nothing at all came out.

I am thinking you are good to go, just keep everyone else here updated with your results.

Ok cool. I'll grab some the next time I'm at my local Autozone.

One more thing I thought up over the weekend. Since the Mike Norris catch can mount only uses one small allen head set screw to secure the can, I came up with a fail safe for it, Large zip ties! Put one above the mount and one below and so that if the allen screw were to back out, the zip ties would capture the can and stop it from falling into the engine bay somewhere. As long as you use black zip ties, you can barely even see them. If you need to get them off, use a pair of diagonal cutters or heavy duty scissors.

I also repositioned the can so it was a little lower and re-torqued all the hardware with blue loctite. The next day I washed the truck and detailed the engine bay with a special mixture of ballistol gun oil and water, called moose milk. I have used pledge before on my other cars but I wanted to try something new. My engine has never looked this nice!

Which Mike Norris can has the black fittings

The gen 2 can which is $129.00. There all the same can. The only difference with the gen 2 is it comes with the black fittings which come from Summit Racing.

A few coats of black spray paint would give you the "upgraded" black fittings much cheaper. lol

Ryan- What intake tube do you have and how much did it cost? It would definitly free up some space in the engine bay. I always wondered what the big bulky expansion box for anyways?

The box is for noise cancelation

The intake tube with all the growths on it is an excellent example of how to balance or cancel out resonance, without creating any negative air flow issues. Change just the intake tube with a new one from AIRAID, and be amazed at how well the stock intake cut intake noise down. The difference in sound is like how it was in the old days. We used to flip the stock air filter lid over on GM V8 engines to get the loudest intake noise you ever heard.

The airraid intake tube didnt change the overall engine noise very much if at all.

Just look at the stock tube removed, amazing any air flows through it

Hmmmm, I wish the air raid tube was a little less expensive. That seems pricey for just a simple tube that probably only provides aesthetic improvement. The intake set up looks simple enough, I could probably just make a streamlined air tube using specter after market parts If I really wanted to.

Just from looking, an 18" section of 3" tube, a 90 degree elbow, a 45 degree long elbow and some hose clamps would probably do the trick. All that might cost you $20 from your local autozone or advance auto. It probably would not look as sleek as the air raid but I am sure something like it would work. I will hold off for now though, I am really happy with my truck so far just as it is. I did the catch can to prevent problems and hopefully extend the longevity of engine not for the looks.

In other news, I have been reading about the black waxy frame protectant coming off of other guy's trucks and now I am beginning to see mine getting soft and falling off in spots. But hey, that is a post for another time and topic!
